That's awful, and I'm glad you had the fortitude to survive it with a sense of self. Of all the things my privilege protected me from, that experience would have really fucked with my head.
My friend in the army was adopted by a white family, and he did this to himself all the time. Lot of internalized self-hatred I didn't have the experience to recognize at the time.
This is awful. I got crap constantly for being an assertive & femme-presenting girl in comp sci & math, and it often took this form as well. Either “you’re not a normal girl you’re more like a guy” or “you only got in because they were easier on girls”. Test scores got rage reactions. 😵💫
It's not the most racist thing I've ever heard, but a memory I've never quite shaken was friends of mine in high school talking about black culture being hostile to academics, and "what about so and so" referring to an elite black student being met with "He doesn't count. He's been assimilated."
I was basically king nerd in that group and my "WTF?" was met with immediate backing down and apologizing. I've still thought about it dozens of times over the years. I think part of that is it was coming from people at the time I wouldn't think would do that.
for some white kids, it seems to be the source of a legitimate psychic wound to think that a black peer could be more academically gifted than them, so much so that the response is either to say "you're not really black" or "you're not really gifted."
Clint Eastwood says to his Captain in Magnum Force, “You’re a good man. A good man always knows his limitations.” Guess what loser incels, not everyone has the reflexes, gaming strategy, and tactics to win. Learn your limitations and accept them. I’m an old guy, and I accept that when playing.
“Facebook and Pinterest are your friends! Those are, for better or worse, two of the online spaces where this type of sex-ratio imbalance isn’t much of a problem: Women on both sites solidly outnumber men.”
Facebook is *nobody’s* friend.
BlueSky seems to have a larger percentage of women, maybe(?)
“It’s also in keeping with the evolutionary framework on anti-lady hostility, which suggests sexism is a kind of Neanderthal defense mechanism for low-status, non-dominant men trying to maintain a shaky grip on their particular cave’s supply of women.”
So people-men really-who do not know how to lose behave in an anti-social fashion? Learning how to lose is more important than learning how to win. When I learned it, I became a better squash player and found more people wanted to play with me.
Relatedly, race science fans often sound like they're given the DiCaprio "1 in 10,000" speech from Django Unchained. But when confronted with flesh and blood examples of intelligent black people, they zealously try to discredit them as legitimate. Exceptions to the order must remain an abstraction.
So if you pay close attention to their internal conversation, an inordinate amount of time is taken up trying to discredit famous black intellectuals by revealing them to be actually dull, fraudulent, etc. Exceptions are left, usually, for hardcore conservatives. All else is hypothetical.
It's racism so blatant even South Park is aware of it and mocks it. (From the movie: "All these times I called you a dirty Jew, I didn't mean it - you're not a Jew." "Yes, Cartman, I am a Jew." "Don't be so hard on yourself.")

Infuriating
(Not much competition, of course. But still, it's excellent.)
[nod] Makes sense.

So all those “alpha” bros: paranoid losers.
