i don't mean this in a condescending way at all but i'm kinda surprised just how universally all the power trip gimmick stuff in new doom (dragon/mech combat) seems to not be landing with people. even a very general audience expects much better.

obvs hard to prove with hard numbers but I feel like even people not too deep into games expect more gameplay consistency in their games and don't actually want drastically setpiece-ish gameplay shifts nowadays.
it sounds like you're still basically playing the same gameplan as the regular shooting but much much simpler, i kind of wonder if making it different even if it wasn't very complex would've helped
From the limited exposure I had to the pre-release phase of that game it kinda felt like them apologizing for how overly complex Eternal tried to be. Guess they went a bit too hard in the other direction 🤷
I think they just miscalculated by having the gimmick sections very clearly play out like regular gameplay but simplified, when the thing about (7th gen-style) gimmick sections is that they play rather differently from regular gameplay for better or worse
