We made them at school (90s) in little plastic trays of soil. A toilet roll inner was buried (kind of Anderson shelter style) to create the cave, with a pebble placed as the door to roll away, with spring flowers and twigs poked into the soil as the garden.

Best I can tell it's like a nativity scene only, like, the literal opposite. You make a little garden thingy and then put a tomb and a Jesus in it. Seems very Instagram, the sort of thing that catches on due to social media posts. Also the Garden Tomb bit makes me think evangelical.

An Easter garden is something you’ll occasionally find in a church set up in time for Easter Day. Essentially a large diorama, It’ll include the three empty crosses and his open empty tomb. I don’t remember the last time I saw one.

Church Times (in 2013) talks of it as a European tradition & St. Pauls had an inside Easter Garden in 1955. I suspect it depends on how much room your church had & if anyone green-fingered voluntered. I've been to church most weeks of my life - CofE, non-denominational and Baptist. Nope, never heard of an Easter Garden. But even if I knew exactly what it was, asking a kid 'what's this then' when you know exactly what it is, is 'how to start a conversation with a small child 101'. 🙄
