It really depends on what I’m trying to do, and how poorly box speed suits that. Also, whether I know the film behaves better exposed differently… I’ve followed some recommendations about Phoenix and shoot it at 100 and have the lab pull dev by 1 stop. I guess mostly I pull these days 🤷‍♂️😸

I like pulling film TBH. A bit of an outlier. But I've pushed a good share of film. Lately I've kind of landed on shooting the Catlabs film (320 ISO) at 200 (and dev at that).

But I also don't shoot as much inside and tend to pick up the digital monochrome when light is scarce.

I’m a creature or habit and it’s also like muscle memory for me to just push my film (and I love the deep contrast it gives an image)

however, from all these responses I think I’ll challenge myself a bit and pull my film more this summer

I pulled some HP5+ down to 100 last fall. I think the non cider donut ride ones are floating around but this is a good set, a little less contrast but still enough to get some deep blacks editing in post (probably even printing)

I exclusively shoot HP5 and Tri-X at 800 and develop in HC-110. Love the bump in contrast and the extra stop is very useful for lower light situations

I’ve never used hc-110; only cinestill chemistry (for both b&w and c-41) from the looks of it, it has a shelf life of 6 months once it’s opened?

Might have to give that developer a try next time 😊

Highly recommend it over CineStill, especially if you’re talking about their monobath.

HC-110 lasts much longer than 6 months once opened. I’ve been using my current bottle for a year and have developed over 100 rolls with it and still have enough left to develop another 10 rolls at least.

Depends on the film, but as a general rule of thumb I set my c41 to either a half stop or full stop over exposed (vs. Box speed) and develop at box. Black and white can vary wildly from box speed to as much as 4 stops push

I would only ever pull if I had a 400 or something and it was just too painfully bright for mt shutter to keep up or if I was shooting an entire roll in such high contrast lighting I needed to drop the contrast

Some film does better with a bit more exposure. I shoot Fomapan 400 at 200. Portra and Fuji color films seem to like being overexposed.

Depends on the film stock ofc but i shoot a lot of color at about 2/3 stops below box speed. Stocks like portra look sooo good slightly overexposed!

100 and 125 ISO I shoot at box speed, 400 I usually push, Kentmere and HP5 both look good at 800 and 1600.

I’ve been pushing film a lot this winter but now I’m shooting more at box speed again! Might even start pulling film now that the light is returning. Having pushed a lot of film recently I can see some of the limits and drawbacks of the technique more clearly now.

same. I usually push my film, since where I live there’s a bit of cloud coverage all year round + shooting indoors a lot

but I may have to change up my habits and start pulling film a little more
