Also I think since pretty much every drama of the last 20 years has done the same thing they were obviously going to turn things around to where Mark was the one who needed rescued. Plus the fact that the bad guys so often gave Mark S. what he demanded (Helly being biggest) implied…
that it always benefitted them & he just wanted the things they could use as psychological leverage. Echoing his outie’s frustration spurred insult, the innies are emotionally children & the end was essentially like him running away because he wanted to play & not go to the dentist or whatever.
As one of the dozen or so people who watched Dollhouse, it's fun to be reminded that Dichen Lachman is maybe the world's best actor at playing multiple personalities inhabiting a single body.
