Okay, so I've never been on my "local subreddit" or even "knew it existed" and, holy shit, I maybe have found my people but, also, I maybe need to move to get away from some of these people.

Some people in local subreddits don't actually live in the area and are just trolling. So just assume that's the case for anyone you don't like, and you'll feel better.
I love my local Facebook page. I live in the country so it's mostly loose livestock and bear sightings. A potential Dollar General store has been the biggest controversy.
Our Bay Area town's subreddit is racist AF against South Asians. The weirdest part is that most of the comments are from people who are South Asian themselves as if that makes it ok.
I do appreciate the roadside cleanup, ICE warnings, and happy dog reunited with owner posts, though.
Unfortunately, as we see now, some immigrants see themselves as better than other immigrants. Either because they came here “legally” or they’ve been here longer. It’s literally pulling the ladder up behind them type stuff, which is very sad to see, honestly.
It's so sad. I understand on some level because I think it's emotionally easier to try to get ahead within a system rather than admit that it is flawed and needs to be torn down.
It definitely makes sense because it seems to be way too many people’s approach to living instead of trying to make things better for everyone. I don’t think they realize that if we don’t all get ahead, no one really gets ahead in the system besides those who created it. Such as trump and his ilk.
My local subreddit is primarily obsessed with cars crashing into buildings, except when there’s a tornado watch when we all come together to await the end with giddy excitement.
I describe mine as active an unhinged. I need to spend more time there. They were the only social that was actually discussing our local No Kings protest (good and bad). Reddit isn’t as lefty as they are described on other platforms.
Welcome to the Internet. It is delightful. It is Hell. Please allow me to introduce you to this Nigerian prince and a pizza place down the street that is the epicenter of all child porn in the galaxy. Oh, and cartoon frog!
Be careful, local subs are notorious for being astroturfed by right wing trolls. Usually, they post about homeless problems in big cities and blaming Democratic leadership. But you can find some great discussions with real locals as well.
The Ask an electrician subreddit is fantastic because half the users are electricians who will tell you to hire a professional to install a light switch and the other half are people who are not electricians telling you it's perfectly fine to power your outdoor shed with a buried extension cord.
Haha yeah I was going to tell him to check out NextDoor and the insane people there next. Love an app that allows mods to ban me for calling out that said mods are spreading conspiracy theories like white genocide and supporting fash like Moms for Liberty.
Careful, it’s a gateway drug to even more subreddits, and before you know it you’ve joined a dozen and spend as much time there as you do BlueSky, Threads, Xitter, etc.
Love my Oakland subreddit. I learn so much about my city — some of it inspiring, some infuriating, all eye-opening. It’s the best of social media…I get to see into spaces I wouldn’t normally be invited into.
San Diego too. A lot of cities either "The main city sub was overtaken by crazies, so the normal people created a new sub" or "The main city sub was too normal, so the crazies created a new sub".

anyway i'll head out now before i wear out my welcome

But you should be able to find an electrician, so it meets that goal at least
