The problem is that LTNs have been used to bear the load of (i) road pricing; and (ii) segregated bus/cycle lanes. They're a 'second-best' solution to intolerable traffic levels. Until achieving (i) and (ii) are politically possible, I think 'case by case' justification is a bit strong.

Yeah, the can work. But the national narrative tends to be they do work or don't work in absolute. I agree on case by case situational decisions. These should be a low salience local issue, but we've somehow made them a high emotion national political one. Which is bewildering.

The evidence, as collected and analysed in the research literature, suggests that they *do* work. The literature also shows how wearily familiar debates come to be generated around each one: a minority love them, a minority hate them, most people don't even know they exist.

Far too sweeping imo. They obviously failed in Streatham, which is why they were removed. They've failed in EOx, but we wait to see whether traffic filters can correct that (I'm doubtful).

The Waltham Forest LTN worked, and all the ones in Camden where I also live are on balance a good thing.

Which is what you'd expect if you thought about it.
