Some people look at this graph and fixate on the fact that the negative prices that sometimes arise during these 100% periods are somehow bad.

Well, they are bad in a way! But it's a fixable problem with short-term storage!

Can't wait until our first 100% 24-hr period!

The 24-h-average WWS is 55.5% of demand in 2025, v 52.6% in '24 and 46.0% in '23

Fossil gas down 21% v '24 and 44% v '23.
Solar up 20% v '24 and 50.4% v '23.
Batteries up 67% v '24 and 209% v '23

And for those who falsely claim WWS has anything to do with high CA electricity prices, it is the opposite. WWS is keeping prices from being higher than they otherwise would be.

In fact, of the 11 states in 2024 with the highest % of their electricity demand met by WWS, 10 had electricity prices at least 1.4 cents/kWh below the national average. In other words, WWS is preventing the US from having much higher electricity prices.
