Climeworks: The carbon capture company that emits more than it captures “This tech perpetuates the business model of oil and gas companies. This is what this tech is designed to do. None of this is doing any good for climate..it is making things worse.” open.substack.com/pub/reddmoni...

Synthetic direct air capture (DAC) and carbon capture (CC) are NOT carbon dioxide removal (CDR) techs. They only increase CO2, air pollution, fossil mining+infrastructure, pipes, energy costs, health costs, climate costs & total social costs. Here's why web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/j...

US climate scientists need all the help they can get. Including from foul-mouthed comedians! 🤡😱😱 Watch Emmy Award-Winning David Cross team up with Prof Michael Oppenheimer in the US launch of the hit series "Climate Science Translated". #climate #arresteddevelopment #climatescience

Wow! South Dakota generated enough renewable energy to meet all of its energy demand and then an additional 21% on top. I assume that excess energy was exported to other states. The vast majority of the renewable energy generation was wind. And Montana met almost 94% with renewables. Amazing.

76 straight and 117 of 149 (79%) days in 2025 with >100% WindWaterSolar on the California ISO grid for part of the day. Averaging 4.9 h/day (20.4% of all hours) >100% WWS and 55.6% WWS in all of 2025 Vs 3.2 h/day & 52.9% in 2024 Vs 0.85 h/day & 46.2% in 2023 Gas is down 43% vs '23 and 21% vs '24.

South Dakota & Montana blaze to new renewable records from Q2-24 to Q1-25 with electricity prices 3.5 cents/kWh below US average SD met 121.3% of demand with WWS 88.8% wind 29.9% water 2.7% solar MT met 93.8% of demand 38.3% wind 53.2% water 2.3% solar web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/j...

Stop saying it can't be done. Can you imagine 74 straight days in 2025 with >100% WindWaterSolar on the California ISO grid? Well it has happened. Plus 115 of 147 (78%) days in 2025 have experienced >100% WWS, for an average of 4.9 h/day among all 147 days.

Records are meant to be broken One day after records set on CA grid, they are broken Sun, May 25, 2025: 82% of 24-h demand met by WindWaterSolar 10.5 h of >100% WWS WWS met a peak of 158.2% of demand 72nd straight & 113 of 145 (78%) of all days in '25>100% Gas down 44% v '23

This is true. I wrote about this for @sciam.bsky.social at the time and all the experts swore to me that with >20% renewables the world would come to an end.

According to utilities and skeptics in 2009, when this paper came out, web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/j... it was impossible to keep the grid stable with more than 20% WindWaterSolar on the grid, let alone 80%.

Multiple records set in California Sat May 24, 2025 Most hours ever with 100% WindWaterSolar: 10.33 h Highest % of 24-h demand met with WWS: 80.2% Most electricity going to battery charging: 44.6 GWh Plus WWS met a peak of 155% of demand 71st straight and 112 of 144 days in 2025 with >100% WWS

New battery record of 10.03 GW peak discharge rate on the California ISO grid on Tuesday, May 20, 2025! 10 GW=41% of the yearly average 24.3 GW of demand on the grid in 2024 Batteries are 4-h, so 10 GW = 40 GWh of storage = 6.9% of 582 GWh average daily demand on grid in '24
