TIL motion blur is a heatedly hated feature in video games

But some games implement it very badly. IDK why but Dark Souls III on the PS4 has combination of motion blur + 30fps that made me feel unwell, dizzy. Had to buy it again on PC...
I had to mod all that shit off so fast and the game looks better for it.
The better type that is used less often as it's more demanding is called Per-Object ...
for anything else where i might want to see what is happening, yeah no, motion blur always off
But I would try a game where it only motion blurs at higher speeds.
Camera motion Blur when you move really fast is good
When you just turn the camera at normal speed it's bad
Per object motion blur is great imo
I am a motion blur defender
That being said, I much prefer motion blur on in the Fromsoftware games I play.
I understand that it can give motion sickness though, but still, it seems widely hated even outside of that (which is fair, lens flare are hated, but I love them too much)
I just wish more games would use a slider instead of on/off.
Motion blur is top 3 hated vfx for Accessibility.
Any sort of small to major eye issue (neural or ocular muscle based. There are eye issues a’ Plenty) tends to experience something (nausea, migraines, vertigo, etc) rendering play difficult.
like especially in some 30 fps games, its a real downgrade to play without. Try Spyro Reignited Trilogy with and without motion blur on 30 fps!

it just looks soooo much smoother
Any modern engine supports per pixel or per object blur which very closely mimic how the eye perceives motion irl and aid the brain in processing information.
But ballisticng doesn't reaaally need it. It does have a really good motion blur shader thats just turned off in this footage.
