Law professors are this amazing fount of cloistered, near-sighted pearl clutching that never ends. It’s genuinely impressive to see a discipline so dedicated to avoiding any confrontation with reality.
If I was a law professor I would simply understand that I'm not a computer scientist and that I was working in a field that fundamentally dealt with the most foundational issues of human life and freedom
@peark.es Buffett said be greedy

when ppl are greedy. but most ppl
are greedy if other ppl are greedy,
and fearful if other ppl are fearful.
what does a scanner see? he asked himself. I mean, really see? into the head? down into the heart? does a passive infrared scanner like they used to use or a cube-type holo-scanner like they use these days, the latest thing, see into me - into us - clearly or darkly?
I hope it does, he thought, see clearly, because I can't any longer these days see into myself. I see only murk. murk outside; murk inside. I hope, for everyone's sake, the scanners do better.
because, he thought, if the scanner sees only darkly, the way I myself do, then we are cursed, cursed again and like we have been continually, and we'll wind up dead this way, knowing very little and getting that little fragment wrong too.
All the Constitutional law professors at Columbia and UCLA and countless other universities were very quiet during the anti genocide protests. Can’t risk that easy tenure check from heavily indebted students that they talk down to.
It is pretty impressive the way law professors are able to sublimate the fact their discipline has real world stakes. Frankly the most important stakes of basically any discipline.
they never get tested by the market. they abstract everything away because they don't try many cases and don't face consequences. I liked my MBA professors who were actual professionals and had to make money and be tested by the market.
Their entire livelihood and personal/professional identity depends on constructing an (alternative) reality to their liking, one in which their sage wisdom and expertise is highly sought after.

to unsee most of finance industry
is failing at foundational lvl basics
industry is failing at the basics
even simplest most basic things
does not seem that hard. buy if it is
undervalued. sell if it is overvalued.
but you constantly see ppl buying
overvalued and panic selling even
for crashes when it’s undervalued
