I’m not very technical so is hosting my own PDS on here going to be nightmare fuel?
I also don’t want to make the same mistake as I did with mastodon. When I self hosted on there, it was rubbish because I guess the federation shit wasn’t rigged up right.

Setup was easy.
Account migration was easy, low-risk, but terrifying (messing up loses the account).
Ongoing maintenance has been minimal.
Misc: I would do it again. It was more fun towards the beginning. And it’s a one-way ticket.

Very different than running and maintaining mastodon
I first did it on a raspberry pi at home and it worked but I frequently had connectivity issues so I moved to a VPS

Whatever you do, try it out with some test accounts first.
That said it’s as close as set and forget as I’ve seen, unlike bigger stuff like mastodon
