I definitely agree that having more structure to represent & promote higher level teams would encourage them to exist more.

How would this differ from what LUTI aims to accomplish, or what the SendouQ championships do each season? I think format-wise I'm not quite following your idea

first with my personal opinion, i think luti is a good idea but should dissolve. there is no hype around individual matchups and having a more circuit-like format would help build that hype a lot more, CCA Circuit did that well. SendouQ championship isnt bad but it goes to the point of..

I like sendou majors as being the only real major in the scene rn (major by way of a small bracket dense with top teams who have qualified) great stories with the chance for anyone to qualify but it’s not really enough. Def a good start for a major system

I generally tend to disfavor leagues as how we should construct our esport because it’s so different to the current structure + I prefer hype tournaments, but I would take whatever large-scale structure we could get going

result farms in a way and focuses more on an individual level. while it is good to promote individuals, teams should be prioritized. like i would like so see something like sq finals but with only the teams, not the strong pickups. the idea would to have a series-like event that builds around specs

I might be a bit pessimistic, but from my interactions with a fair bit of mid level it’s hard for me to visualize them being willing to shift to a team focused scene. There are many existing feedback loops for individuals (sendou badges, + server) that we’d have to basically drag people away from.

I definitely agree that building team presences would be great for the scene!! Great for commentators/streams, good so that I have fewer names to remember (idk half of TZS or HDFG rosters, oops).
And it would help people to start collaborating for skill instead of doing their dances for public image

This is a problem we haven’t gotten to the point of having, but it is one that I think we would be equipped to deal with. Splatoon is very low-level heavy in terms of publicity, and that would have to be preserved if we were to centralize. Vapor I’m interested in what you would think about my WSCS

Our centralized league does a pretty good job of highlighting low level but it’s not “the esport” like VCT/Challengers is so it’s not fully comparable

The challenge with having one thing that is “the esport” (like VCT/challengers is) is that it tends to shut out lower levels. I tend to lean towards a system more like smash than VCT (esp since top players seem unable to commit to teams) but I would welcome any good centralization

I think there should be more of a movement towards Spectator Priority to build more hype around events and individual matchups. I dont think shutting lower levels out is an issue with something like this if it is more towards spectator and higher end. again not fully removing our low level tourneys

Online orgs are a lot harder to work together, especially across multiple time zones. it is able to work for LAN championships since all the lans work with Falco in the first place for streaming, so it is more convenient, and all the organizers wanted something more out of the LANs.

Yes we are a low level scene mostly, but i believe this needs to be a change but no one wants to take the reigns with working with top players for scheduling events. the low level teams listed would LIKELY get destroyed in an event of the such in the actual finals/bracket stage...

so enjoyment for them is questionable. Building a prize that leads into a Major LAN is already on my mind. As a concept, it is interesting. For the sake of building the community the way *I* think it should go towards, i dont think exact thing would be good - and being hard to work with.

We can never have enough of a structure to build off of as a mostly grassroots scene. Our current issue as a scene is that we are too ridged with a lack of system to promote people to make improvements.

To get recognised, you need to be a "top player" or have that outspoken presence. The closest thing we have had to an "open league" as the video mentioned was InkTV Resurgence. We need a better system than what was ran to help with the "Tier 2" teams, but something of the alike

It is hard to tell how strong people are without a promotion/religation system because of the complete "result" culture that has been built with this scene. Like why should I care if you got a 2-0 over some random tier 2-3 players in a pickup, prove your strength in a said system

Have 1 or 2 open qualifiers for everyone, top 8 teams go to "Tier 1", next 8 to "Tier 2" (etc.) and mini circuit for them that leads to something at the end. This would allow us to actually have sustained teams, one thing we have been complaining about for years now.

This open system would also allow for under represented players to show their strength. Like this is a topic that has come up a few times in the past but nothing was really worked on to help solve this problem in a more long-term aspect.

I think the biggest obstacle here is the fluidity of Splatoon teams. *MOST* teams only last for a few months to maybe two years at most, and they tend to disband, rather than pass the "team brand" on to new leadership and preserve *continuity* - which a league like that may need for sustainability.
