What’s everyone having for dinner? I’m making red lentil dal with tomatoes and spinach cooked into it. Topped with cucumber yoghurt. And basmati will feature of course. Chopped mango and strawberries for afters. No booze.

Sounds delicious! We’re having chicken in a cream sauce with sun-dried tomatoes, Parmesan and orzo, with chocolate brownies to follow as soon as I get off my arse and bake them. Full luxury as next week is going to be very salad heavy due to the heat.
Roast chicken freely slathered in chimichurri. Roast parsnips/carrots with garlic and honey. Mash. Gravy. A kir royale made with violette instead of cassis. A pint of Covonia
I am really impressed by the Holy Moly salsa verde and chimichurri. Not the cheapest, but nice little bottles so you finish them before they go off. The salsa verde is TOP on a fish finger sandwich
I have some lovely halibut, and some lovely prawns, which I have put in the freezer as I also have feckin’ COVID. Not that I’m looking for sympathy, but GIVE ME SYMPATHY.
Thursday. And weirdly haven’t eaten a single thing since then. More weirdly, haven’t drunk anything but water either. I had no idea it was still about.
Rose veal sirloin (M&S Marble Arch). Tarragon mustard. Shaved courgettes melted in olive oil, garlic + lemon, a whisper of shredded basil. Côtes du Roussillon.
Have spoilt it now by having two crumpets (buttered) with another glass of red, as my day has been LONG. Started at 0930 + involved Oxford St/amazing 1970s jewels/surprise CRIII flyover/a trip to Lower Marsh (plus plus plus) and… a tired body needs carbs, it turns out
I've just lit the BBQ, I'll let you know in about half an hour but I suspect turkey. Partner doesn't eat a lot of red meat so this was a yellow sticker purchase a while back. I decanted, thinned out and froze.
Nice. I often put spinach in dal.
I'm making Jersey Royals with mint, asparagus and poached eggs. Bit of fried halloumi because it needs using up. Will probably have a glass of wine, got some Sauvi in the fridge or some Malbec on the counter. Haven't decided which. Asparagus is difficult to pair.
I have often wondered if there is some gene-related body-chemistry thing about asparagus. I want to be excited about it, especially in June, but fear I am missing something. #bland #UnusualPiss
It’s really beyond me to understand the excitement for the flavour. Tho it’s one of the last seasonal things hanging on, so maybe that’s part of it? 🤷🏽♀️
Fridge supper: leftover salmon, the remnants of the bulghur we had with chicken on Thursday, some sad asparagus, bit of charcuterie, tomato and avocado salad.
Surprise roast chicken with sweet potato wedges and green salad. Because…Surprise! Beth is home! After many buses. This is the power of Father’s Day apparently and I am V HAPPY.
Pizza chili. My mum loves pizza but she can’t have it anymore because she has trouble swallowing so she’s on a ‘minced and moist’ diet. I mashed the kidney beans and put the pepperoni in the food processor.
I’m pretty slapdash tbh. It’s a basic dal recipe I think - but I always go heavy on mustard/coriander seeds & ginger and I throw fennel seeds in. Chopped tomato and half a lemon go and cook for another 30 mins. Or grated carrot, you want Vit C. Spinach stirred in right at the end.
That sounds lovely. It’s steak for me tonight. A rarity but am enjoying it very much .. with mushrooms and onions on rocket and tomato salad. Maybe strawberries after
8 Little piles of thinned sliced red onion on cookie sheet, pinch of salt on each one, a drizzle of EVOO, a tbs of shredded Swiss cheese, a little drizzle of balsamic- top with raw puff pastry square and bake for 30ish min at 350°.
chicken tikka with lemon pilau, pickled shallot raitha, fresh pineapple chutney and hot buttered naan. eton mess for dessert. had friends over in the garden and it was lovely.
I’ll tell him - and it was!! Yes, we got back yesterday evening.
Hard to pick a single highlight so I’m going to pick a few
- Villa San Marchele (Ana Capri)
- seeing mozzarella being made
- drinks on the terrace looking out on the town at sunset
- the Amalfi coast drive
- Pompeii

Going full Motorsport this weekend here so having burgers, plastic cheese in brioche, fries and onion rings. Beer.
Tomorrow is purgatory.

Saving myself for the BBQ by children (not really children any more, offspring?) are doing for me tomorrow.
