Being next to two states with lax gun laws probably explains most of it. Fwiw homicide appears to, at least so far, be greatly down from last year though from a massively higher murder rate to begin with when compared to Boston.

Who said anything about buying guns legally? No it’s still easier to purchase a firearm illegally in a place where there are a lot of guns in circulation vs. a place that doesn’t have a ton of firearms in circulation.

I always avoided Boston proper on game days. I lived in Medford for most of my time in MA and I would plan my work commute based on game days (either leave work early, wfh, or plan to stay late or meet up with friends outside the city etc). And forget about taking the T! It was scary!

OMG that is spot on. Makes me crazy when people report data like that. In the maternal mortality space, where deaths are reported in number per 100,000 live births because it’s so rare, people love to talk like that because it gets more attention.

There are definitely more car-related fatalities in Boston than murders (so far, this year). There are 4 deaths (that i know of) vs 2 murders. Having trouble finding official stats, bet there’s more.

I have no idea. I just watch the Boston/Mass news from up here in NH and it seems like there are indeed suspicious deaths and late-night DUI incidents of cars plowing through yards into homes. We have that too, though.

As a long-time resident of Massachusetts, I look forward to those segments too. But a fact-based report on Fox News is even rarer than gun homicides in Boston and beyond here. Also glad the city and state aren't resting on laurels and are maintaining a proactive approach to the issue.

Not by that much. New York is 13x as large as Boston by population, and they've had 65 murders this year (down about 20% from last year). So 65/13 = 5, and 5 > 2.

Having lived in Chicago for about 25 years (but not anymore), that is REMARKABLY low. I’m certain that my new city of Colorado Springs has had >2 homicides so far this year.
