Premodern Gender Historian: Almost all surviving sources about that period are from elite men. I certainly was doing work then but it was not considered important or relevant by the chroniclers or may have been in perishable foods or textiles.

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume.
Classicist: why yes, that was the age of gold, when folks free from care lived out their lives in gentle leisure. The earth too was free from harm, not touched by a rake nor wounded by any plows, but gave everything of her own accord.
