Hell, Harper tried to eliminate the long form census because without data, it would be harder for us to prove the existence of inequality.

By every measure possible, his party underestimated how pissed off Canadians would be, and there was a ground swell of protest which reversed his decision.

We can & should be outraged every time politicians try & interfere with scientists & experts. Now, more than ever, there is a concerted effort to challenge the very existence of facts & truth.

But important to see how it's part of conservatism as a whole which means we've been here before & WON

Harper did terrible things our ability to know and act on things... Destruction of Climate Data, Species at Risk, mandatory census, opting out of census records.. etc. Lots of times I see what is happening south of us and think "That's what Harper wanted to do".

There were scientists literally going into the garbage bins recovering decades of work to keep it. I worked in the area at the time. There were managers that finally LOCKED the bins to prevent it. https://thetyee.ca/News/2013/12/09/Dismantling-Fishery-Library/

This is what turned my lifelong Conservative dad into a quasi-Liberal. In the 70s he was angry about the NEP & flirted with running for WCC. He volunteered for Peter Elzinga for years.
Harper turned Dad into someone who voted for JT in 2015, the last elxn before he passed away. So proud of him.
