GenX humor: we happened to have friends over on Derby day and decided to put on the race. One of them looked over and said "You shouldn't be going out in mud like that, that's a good way to have your horse sink into the track forever."
I saw that again this weekend while online con moderating and it made my Con Bingo list. All but two of which I encountered last weekend, including "security report: Grand Theft Auto - no, seriously, the car is gone" and "that's not supposed to happen on this continent" https://bsky.app/profile/lynnstrong.bsky.social/post/3lpjsorkqxs2g
I do also have a special spot in my heart for "the AC is spitting out black feathers and also nobody has seen that angel bishounen cosplayer for 3 hours" followed by "we are now confident the huge hotel air intakes by the smokers' pit have not sucked in a cosplayer." :D
I considered an Artax cosplay where I appear to be covered in mud, with my face and hair painted white above the “mudline” just under my mouth. I decided it would always be too soon.
My biology teacher used to make us watch that film at the end of every year. He’d sit on the end of the lab benches and cry inconsolably every time at Artex. Why put yourself through that?!
I've seen that and did a weird, sob-laugh. Because it's just warped enough for me to find it amusing despite the epic trauma (I was a Horse Girl, so it hit extra hard).
My husband has been reading the book to our soon to be 11yr old. It ended a bit abruptly and he went to read about wtf was going on. Turns out his physical copy was two whole chapters short!
I remember seeing this in person at DragonCon! I think I have a photo somewhere. It was such a great cosplay, and setting up in the middle of a lobby was the best way to show it off. Except for the fact that it ruined the flow of traffic. 😄

I replied by wailing "AAAAARTAX!"
The kids were baffled.
(I'm a frustrated costumer idiot, though, so... 🤷♀️ )

Might have been my first ugly sob at a movie
