I had a dog that did that. Then he got so scared he couldnβt let go and started going under. I thought he would then let go, but he didnβt. I had to wade out up to my chin and force his jaws open. Middle of winter too. That boy was amazing though. I miss him.
We had a Lab called Jasmine who was just like that. She once jumped into a duck pond to retrieve a 'floating ball' that turned out to be a buoy attached to a steel block... She got it out eventually but I made the mistake of throwing it back in... Here she is with other stuff...
Did she ever try to run through a gate with one of these? My lab did it so many times - not to mention taking out the backs of peopleβs kneesβ¦ Best girl ever!
It's my warped personality to now imagine those canine shouts of encouragement as actually being mean-spirited, intended to goad her into doing something foolhardy π
When you said βthis is Fudgeβ my brain didnβt recognize it as a name because itβs early and Iβm medicatedβ¦ so I said βno thatβs mud.β (On the ground)ππ€£
Years ago, my standard poodle proudly swam out to retrieve a ball, only he got caught up in the river's eddy. He, too, had no clue that he was swimming to nowhere. A very nice friend braved the cold, snowmelt water to retrieve my pup.
I had a yellow lab and a black lab years ago. The black lab loved the water and it was hard to keep her out of it. The yellow lab hated it. My ex picked up the yellow lab and threw her in a canal. She swam but immediately got out. It was a hilarious couple.
When people accuse me of being a liberal Democrat, I tell them I'm not a democratic, I have a spine. When there's actual election interference, crickets... π€¬ No words! How many millions of emails did the white house get after the election? I want to know? Just mine? I think not!

I, too, have a mentally broken dog!
Sorry about the wet trousers, doggy dad.
