I read Judge Wilkinson's ruling last night, and it struck me as a masterpiece. It was something that any American could read and be able to understand. It cut straight to the core of who we are and what this country is supposed to be about. I was quite moved by it, actually.
The real crisis is that we have a fundamentally malformed citizenry that is largely utterly incapable of appreciating the exceptionalism of our cultural legal heritage and seem hellbent on throwing it all out in a fit of pique for a carnival barker and his court of fools, firebrands, and frauds.
Judge Wilkinson has had a long and distinguished career as a jurist, but he outdid himself here. His courage and prescience in this decision will long be remembered.
