One of the easiest ways to do that is by adding inventory. It's basic supply and demand. It also discourages corporate investment in the housing market. We need more multi-family housing like townhomes and duplexes, condos without HOAs, and standard 1500sqft. 3BR 2BA houses.

People need a lot of different options on how they want to live. Not everyone wants to own or wants a yard. With the amount of empty commercial space in cities right now, developers should be turning them into apartments or condos.

Smart constr. will help. Austin has room to grow around it but in Ca there isn’t much space left where the “jobs are”. Commutes are already hours from outlying areas. Fast coherent politic transport can greatly help. Many commercial buildings are already being converted to condos.

I've always thought that was the dumbest claim ever because one of the biggest reasons for rising housing costs is lack of supply. One of the major indicators for the market is inventory and time on the market. If there is more inventory and houses stay on the market prices go down everywhere.

Some will look at this at say "well, Austin TX has experienced net out-migration the past couple of years!" well, California recently did too but housing costs didn't decline 20% during that time. What's the difference?
