In his first term, Trump’s polling was quite steady in the low to mid 40s except for brief dips when he would do something particularly stupid like Charlottesville. This decline feels more chronic and permanent and the biggest political question of our time is when do elected Republicans believe it?
Republicans can expect to get crushed in the midterms, will lose House maybe even Senate. They’ll focus everything on getting a generational high income tax cut and debt limit increase through before then.
It’s depressing being part of a citizenry that would re-elect a criminally charged grifter and then just 3 months in start realizing it might have been a really bad idea.
I realize that I am a broken record on this, and that nothing should surprise me about Pubs, but how the hell can 39% approve of Trump’s idiocy and failure?
GWB, as his second term resulted in failure after failure, always kept a core number, what I recall to be 37%. There are, unfortunately, people in this country who have drowned themselves in partisan conservatism and will not budge.
IF I remember correctly, the first poll out of postwar Germany (with most of the country still in rubble) had Hitler's approval in the low 30's. Cult's are a powerful, powerful thing.
If he drops another 3-4 points, Republicans will be really freaking. The question is whether it causes them to jump ship or increase their efforts to prevent fair elections from happening.
The latter, to the extent those efforts can be increased ( they are already full speed ahead). There are about 5-10 Republicans in Federal politics who are not Trump’s gimp.
"Oh, you know, that's just the way Trump talks. Nobody takes the stuff he says *seriously*. And he's already said that he doesn't know anything about Project2025. That's just Democratic fear mongering."
People who THOUGHT they weren’t directly targeted by it. I mean, how did a contingent of federal workers elect the guy who said he wanted to destroy the govt? Because after the fact they admitted they thought it would be OTHER federal workers, not them.
The fact that it isn't in the low single digits is a national disgrace. Anyone comfortable with this monster needs remedial civics class and to find a sound moral compass.
Trump doesn’t care, he has no intention of leaving office alive. I’m also disappointed it is only at 39% it’s still higher than the number of eligible voters who voted for him. If we had a truly honest media corps the number would be 10% or less

That will only serve to normalize him.
We don’t need a normal backlash election. We need deep constitutional reform to prevent another Trump and should run on that.
The head of MediaMatters (Angelo Carosune) said MAGA is still ride or die so the fear of primarying is still high.
The calculus has to be that there’s no point in winning a primary if you’re going to get crushed in the general.

Etc, etc.
And most people didn't know much about Project 2025, and tbf when someone tried to describe it accurately it was hard to believe.
(Especially by people who weren't directly targeted by it.)
IOW: Suckers.
Trump has made it clear they plan to send Americans there. Make it personal.
They will send your neighbors.
They will send your family members.
They will send you.
