For those interested, counting of votes will only begin tomorrow morning and likely drag on for many days (we do things differently to most European jurisdictions and we LOVE long counts).

It might be but the numbers make it look very unlikely, unless one or two sneak through on preferences.
I think that is unlikely. Certainly, none of the various far right parties are showing up in the exit poll.

John, you are exactly right. No party anymore "wins" elections in Ireland. When the votes are counted and the seats distributed, then the work on putting a coalition together begins. Ireland is fairly much a "centrist" country, with its problems, particularly housing and health.

Ireland also needs to face up to fact that it needs to contribute to European defense and stop relying on others to protect it. Ireland needs an honest an open debate about this. I suspect that the people may be more mature that some politicians and commentators give them credit for.

"One of the strongest democracies in Europe" where the same two indistinguishable parties have ruled uninterrupted for our entire history, completely control the public media and civil service, and voter turnout struggles to get over 50%?
