...silly me figuring that the angle would be "because it gives people black lung" rather than "it does bad things so you're a bad person for trying to survive"
To Kim. Yeah, my grandpa was a coal miner in KY all his working life. I don't know if there's a worse, more dangerous occupation. His family lived in company housing, had to shop at company store.Didn't make money, just scrip. I'll help you eat their heads. Read history of coal miners. Learn somethin
I just like to bring up whenever coal mining is mentioned there are about 8 times more humans working as licensed massage therapists (320k) than there are coal miners (40k) in the US
Because they are spoken of as a class as if Coal Mines employed a vast population of miners, that the Coal Miner employment sector was as important as auto workers (about 1million workers)
They are not, they are a handful of workers in a handful of places, mostly in Wyoming, not West Virginia
No need to shit on miners. I'm sure the majority of them don't want black lung and would rather not mine, and *especially* don't want their kids to mine and die of black lung
Not shitting on them, nothing wrong with honest hard work and making a living. The people they work for, without protecting the workers, and that promote coal in this day and age are another story
I’m under the impression that the miners themselves are not actually driving coal use
Also, I come from a family of copper miners and the job sucked and if they could’ve had a safer/better one that paid as much they’ve done it in a heartbeat, you don’t go underground for love of the game
Seriously, it's the combustion fer electricity that's the problem....
We're still gonna need coal fer all kinds of other products....
Sulphur, carbon....
Um, I'm sure there's more....
Anyhoo....

There are 3 million people working in grocery stores
Coal mining employment is a tiny, tiny sector
