Imagine secondhand smoke, and think about the contexts in which you're more or less likely to breathe it in. It's not foolproof or a perfect 1:1 comparison, obviously, but it's a decent, common sense place to start if you feel overwhelmed by doing risk assessments around COVID exposure rn.

If all you can afford is a surgical mask, that's still WAY better than nothing!! There are ways to modify the straps so they fit tighter on your face. My general guide is masking around people I don't live with. If I can smell their smoke it is within mask distance. That means every inside situation, and outside in conditions that spread smoke.
