Imagine your job is to come up with the graphics to go alongside this. I’d make up a slick name , but it’s likely already on some CNN producer’s whiteboard.
I don’t really watch the news, I prefer to read my news but my wife does particularly during major news events and it’s always eye opening to see what they will do to fill the void
Everything is for profit. The news is basically tragedy for profit with an occasional cherry on top to make it seem like everything is fine, no matter how fucked things are.
So is the dead shell of what used to be local news. Pretty people in the street repeating how awful fire is does nothing to inform folks who need hard information in real time. It's a disgrace.
A lot of chemicals. You're either on something or in recovery when you spend enough time in news. The stuff you don't see, they do. The thing you can turn off now, they can't. Glad I'm out.
Too quickly it turns from useful information to looking for angles, the latest trauma to feed the voyeurism, and stirring up controversy. Even how they ask questions or word the chryons feels gross and accusatory without facts.
Most news (Mainstream Media, paid for by advertisers) these days is opinion based and driven by ratings. "News anchors" are forced to deliver ratings or face being replaced. Independent news sources, free of corporate influence, is where unbiased news is relayed..
I started noticing it during the Gulf War, CGI bomb impact simulations over and over and garish, hysterical graphic style even for titles, headers, lower thirds, etc. CNN mostly. War porn. It was awful.
My sister and I were both in Loma Prieta earthquake (me in Santa Cruz, her in San Francisco) and our dad thought we were both dead bc all he saw on the news was that all of SC had collapsed and all of SF was on fire. And that was 1989, 24-hour news hadn't fully kicked in yet.

They have people who do their makeup and hair. That means they never have to look themselves in the eyes in a mirror and see that they've sold their souls...
24 hour news circuits were started during the Iraq invasion as a means of giving Americans a direct, ideology driven lens into their Christian fundamentalist holy war, and kiss their kids to sleep tonight knowing the evil Orient wasn't gonna get them. Turning horror into entertainment.

So they do what they think they need to do for ratings.
A 24/7 news cycle isn't even necessary.
the viewers are interested...
do you blame the viewers?
