My great uncle, Herbert Brown, led the Bureau of Efficiency in DC from 1919 to 1933. He realized that civil servants weren't earning enough to retire- so he worked with people to establish the Federal Retirement System. Thank you for taking care of government employees. Ours get paid $10 a call, whether it takes 30min or 12hrs. It’s considered reimbursement for gas. That’s just our district. Others don’t even get that. My larger point is that there is an over-reliance on under-compensated labor that never gets talked about, much less addressed in state budgets.
