Looks like it predates SATA might be IDE but searches for 40gb Toshiba drives haven't shown a matching connection.

Just had a quick look and I'm not sure it's SATA as that has a spade type connector.
It looks like older tech. Have you tried Google lens?

Turns out it was a PATA/IDE drive with an adaptor attached to allow it to be fitted by pushing the whole drive downwards into a connector rather than pushing the pins in.

It's an IDE hard drive, but you've ripped the IDE cable header off the cable with it still attached to the hard drive.

Thanks, yes it was. Turned out it had an adapter on the pins so it could be slotted down into the connector rather than being pushed in by the pins.
