Part of intended meaning is clearly self-deprecating irony, tho? Like it's an older-than-Z person, on YT, talking about a serious subject (an impending recession) and intentionally using phraseology associated with youth and flippancy in an arch way.

I sometimes catch myself using it as a referent when in a pre-everyone-talking-like-this-time I probably would have come up w a more thoughtful or creative way to say something and thus exercise a crucial part of my brain. Hence “brainrot”

i think this is right. been thinking about this recently regarding non-profit-speak or corporate-speak, where little is being communicated aside from the claim to be a legit subject in that space. so in this case, the additional weirdness is b/c that person obv isn’t legit.

I believe the commonly accepted linguistic term for this specific influence on language us "algospeak" and it is 100% a net negative imo. Unlike joyous slang/idioms, it is explicitly a form of creative asphyxiation. It's self-censorship and repeated shibboleths to appease a capricious deity.

I too fear that society is collapsing based on someone using a catchy title for their YouTube video. In a civil society, they would have articulated the thesis of the video in the title. Basically, it should be written like every economic newsletter, and not appeal to new userbases.

the title clearly communicates topic (risk of a recession) and target demographic (younger or online audience) and has a hook (trendy phrasing). it’s clearly effective, since the purpose of a title is to generate interest and the video netted 370,000 views. what would you title it?
