FINALLY! It took 4 years of consistent advocacy, but we finally have safer crosswalks across Stone School Rd. Three crosswalks are now equipped with new solar-powered Horizontal Rapid Flashing Beacon Crosswalk Signs! #A2Council

These were just installed at the three roundabouts - that already confuse Virginia drivers - at our local community college. Super helpful for drivers and much safer for students and faculty. The college prez is a rockstar!
This is a joke right?
No matter how many flashing lights you put on your crosswalk
People can ignore it just as easily.
You want safer roads? you have to design safer roads.
Consider:
Raised Crosswalks.
Make the crosswalk a speed bumb that drivers HAVE to slow down to be able to drive over it.
It's not enough.
Signs and flashing ligjts can be sped passed and ignored.
If they want the crosswalk to REALLY be safe
Put in a Raised Crosswalk.
Basically, make it a speed bumb you HAVE to slow down for.

This is great News Sir..I'm wondering if you would contact our State DOT and explain to them that these kind of preventions work. The State of Hawaii has an alarming rate. Which is so unacceptable, I've tried avocating, sent pics of Pedestrians being nearly hit
I've even went as far as sending them a copy of my mom's death certificate, she was hit by speeding driver that was never caught, yet they keep telling me that there isn't enough "constant" foot traffic to install warning Crosswalks. I always tell them " tell my mother that"
Congrats! I once got a stop sign placed in an out-of-the-way, yet dangerous, 3-way intersection near my home. It felt good to not only be heard, but for the city to follow through. Way to go!
It is truly insane how long it takes to get simple road signs. We tried getting some on HS, and it didn’t happen until like 5 years after I graduated. 🤦♀️
It's a welcome improvement. That said...the main problem is the steep grade of the bridge. In the not too distant future, when the time comes to replace the overpass, we should think about extending the new bridge north so that Birch Hollow passes under it.
Worthy cause. And I hope you have broader issues on your plate too. Arriving safely to school is essential, but what about meals, education, health care, and a living wage???
... and it is also perfectly legal for pedestrians to cross streets outside of crosswalks in Ann Arbor (this is the most common definition of "jaywalking"), so long as they yield to cars while doing so. #a2council
"Every pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway." i.e.Vehicles have right of way.
"Every pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway." Vehicles have more rights than people.
