I pay $17-20/hr in rural western wa for 2 6yos depending on the circumstances. I got paid $9/hr as a high schooler in to early 2000s

Usually 50c/hour for babysitting in the early 80s. I think the best I ever got was $1/hr. This was well under minimum wage, even then. I’m kind of shocked that anyone was willing to let teenage me watch their kids, tbh

In my LCOL-MCOL area its about 15-25$ per hour depending on experience, lil extra for a second kid and then a tip. A date night of 4-5 hours usually comes to around 100-120$ for a babysitter, plus of course all of the costs of going out on a date. It's hard to do that often, plus no family support

Yes, I remember as I was that babysitter! When I was 14 I used to babysit a 10 year old child who was non-verbal with cerebral palsy who wore a diaper. When I got to their house one evening mom tells me her daughter just ate a stick of butter. This little girl had butter burps all night! 🤢😂

The summer I was 13 I made $50/week working 10 hour days, 5 days/wk helping care for 9 young kids. My mom dropped me off before she went to work & picked me up after.
I was grateful for the opportunity to have weekend spending money.

When I was 8, neighbors entrusted their babies and toddlers to me. I roamed the neighborhood with them. Horrifying, in retrospect. I forget how much they paid me. I did keep them safe, thank God.

When I was 12 (1982) I got my first summer job. I was paid $25/week for two kids, Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 5:30pm. I had to get them showered and dressed and make them breakfast and lunch.
