Throughout the year anyone can add their work to the list. Also, Nerds of a Feather has been doing an ongoing novella project at their site that highlights other publishers. Also reviewers such as Alex Brown, Reactor (formally Tor dot com lol) Strange Horizons, Lightspeed etc do reviews of other pub

The question really is, are people going to read them? I have no shade for Tor, lol I will send them my next novella, but it's very hard to get traction and visibility outside of big huge marketing dollars. It requires the readers to be more huh let me look outside my box +

It also requires people to shout out novellas that they love from other publishers. It also requires a lot of people finding out where to shout out about things and putting them onto these spread sheets. Its a grass roots effort because no money! But they exist. And it's not hard to find.

I created a (no doubt incomplete) list of novella publishers... which I included in an article at tor dot com to [strike] get paid [/strike] facilitate visibility wrt readers unaware of non-tor novella publishers. I try to highlight the publisher whenever I review a not-tor novella.

Unfortunately the novella project at nerds was a short term thing, but I'm doing an ongoing column at the Ancillary Review of Books on small press novellas so I've not shut up about them, just moved venue lol.

well it's still useful to look back on and see that other publishers exist? I can understand someone completely new to the genre being like no other publishers or a casual reader but part of me is like are you for real? + I keep seeing the same two alternatives they are great but also there's more?

this is an incredible resource but just wanted to flag it's not maintained by the Hugos! @renay.bsky.social is the person behind the Hugos Spreadsheet of Doom, it's a service she does for the community in her free time. & I know she pushes HARD for folks to add novellas by publishers other than Tor.
