Just watched a Parks & Rec episode (aired 2013 I think) that used "remove fluoride from water because it is a chemical" as biting satire to make fun of gullible people and it hits different in 2025

Oh, I spoke to a person at work who buys fluoride mouthwash for his child, but thinks the fluoride in the water is killing everyone… Said both on the same day.. I’ll admit I haven’t done extensive research on it, but where I live I would kill for safe drinking water to come out of my faucet..
Rinse and spit vs swallowing. Our dentist prescribed fluoride drops until son was old enough to spit out fluoride toothpaste. I have no problem with PHARMACEUTICAL grade fluoride, however what is added to water supply is sourced from fertilizer industry waste. Mistakes happen, why risk adding it?
Been in local government for 35 years and the time capsule episode in particular was one of the most hilariously accurate depictions I’ve ever seen. Only The Simpson’s Bear Patrol and when Homer becomes SanitationCommissioner rival it.
I think about the automatic lights episode all the time. It's actually happened to me before that lights won't trigger for me but will for white people 😭. I'd make a friend come with me to trigger it.
it all hits too close to home now— i started a rewatch because parks and rec is a comfort show of mine but halfway into season two i got a bad taste in my mouth hearing people praise the government and had to turn it off 🫥
That's been a longstanding feature of the natural health crowd. Interesting tho, recent studies actually have shown children may be experiencing bad side effects from too much fluoride. https://www.npr.org/transcripts/1223466595
Surprised they didn’t mention how cavities have been on a downward trend throughout Europe despite not fluoridating water. /s Apparently having it in toothpaste and rinses is effective. Always mention “naturally occurring” but never that what is added is from fertilizer industry waste-see Mosaic.
It’s like people are just going to keep falling for variations on the old “di-hydrogen monoxide is in every lake and stream” joke until we’re all dead (or at least severely poisoned)
Parks & Rec was kind of ahead of its time. Great satire, too. The ep “Born & raised” where everyone is mad Leslie wasn’t born in Pawnee calls to people giving Barack Obama the same shit.
