I never liked him, but it was the summer of 2018 (when he accused a guy helping in the Thai cave rescue of pedophilia) when I graduated to burning hatred. I have friends who like him even today, and I can't help but see it as a moral failing.

I used to like him before then. The Thai cave accident popped the bubble on so many levels --- not only he was an egregious asshole, but his proposal was so obviously a stunt and it showed he didn't care about the trapped boys.

I had an argument with some of my close nerdy friends around then. They thought I was an idiot. We were at a bar, and one of the staff came over and asked “what are you guys arguing about”, one friend said “Elon Musk”, and the staff member said “oh yeah, he’s going to save the world”.

I had an American friend here in Thailand. A big, kind lefty. Died in 2020. Loved Musk, even after the cave rescue BS, because: SpaceX. I like to think Musk would have crossed a line for him ages ago. But SpaceX just caught a rocket with chopsticks or whatever. So, who knows. Musk casts many shadows

I'd was a fan right up until basically this moment. Watching him melt down and call an expert rescue diver a pedo, because of they didn't want his PR machine interference with an active rescue. I learned around then of a guy at Tesla whose wife had a baby, and the guy was in the hospital with her for the birth. Musk texted him asking where he was and he said “my wife just had a baby!” “Everyone’s well?” “Yeah!” “So why are you still there?”

That’s when I knew how terrible he was.

Well now Elon has graduated to National Security risk.
He should be removed from SpaceX and Starlink.
His clearances and citizenship should be revoked, and him sent back to South Africa.
