absolutely agree. unanimity is there for a reason; otherwise the big ones would just roll over the small ones on every issue. it would go from a union of equals to a quasi empire

Unanimity is a fundamentally undemocratic principle. Democracy is the rule of the majority with guarantees for fundamental rights of minorities: not every opinoon of a minority is a fundamental right. Unanimity is also incredibily inefficient as shown repeatedly during this crisis.

this isn't about minorities or majorities, it's about whether every member state has the same status as the other ones and the same opportunity to defend its interests in the union. it's not about rights either, it's about the nature of the union

Disagree. It's fundamentally about democracy because by joining the union citizens tie their hands on policies. We either live in a democracy or we don't. If 135.000 luxemburghese can stop 400 million other Europeans from acting, we don't.
