These things are generally driven by approval within the party. It’s a given that Ds hate Rs and Rs hate Ds.

In this poll, Rs are 10% underwater with 90% Rs approval. Ds are 20% underwater with only 80% D approval. So that’s kind of it.

As a D, I hope this inspires D challengers to keep pushing.
