If you have kids bring it. Just don’t use your face or anything to open it. Make sure it’s set to a code instead. It’s so if police decide to be jerks they can’t open it.

Thank you. my friend said we needed to set our phone to code, but she didn't say why. Your explanation makes sense. She also told me to empty my purse and I was like WTF?
I appreciate everyone's advice. It will help me be better prepared.
I have never considered attending a protest ever in my whole life. I am a rookie. I automatically assumed it would be a peaceful protest. I guess I was being naive.
This was explained on the zoom call I mentioned. Police can compel you to unlock with face or thumb biometrics, but they can't make you use a passcode.
It sounds scary but remember there are event planners there specifically for safety, make sure you know who they are, let them handle disrupters.
stay with your buddy, get there early, don't engage disrupters, use chants to drown them out, no stick on your sign, have contact phone numbers with you, wear dark clothing (nothing bright that can be identifying b/c these will be filmed) take water & snacks, wear sturdy shoes, stay w/ the crowd
Oh you beat me to it. To add - Unlocking a phone with a passcode implies knowledge of that code constituting a testimonial act protected by the 5th amendment . Using facial recognition or fingerprints is considered a nontestimonial act, revealing no explicit knowledge so they can bypass 5A rights.

I plan on attending a ☮️&❤️protest!!!
If people start trouble, move away.
Best case scenario: you do all this and feel silly, like you're playing spy;
Worst case scenario: everything goes to rat shit, but you have tools giving you an advantage to get through it.

Do you have any other advice for this rookie?
