Not a fan of the coloring or the ordering. It seems sorted by value, but then Qatar plane should be first. But for effect it's last - I get it, but then order chronologically.
I agree - I like the concept (in fact I used it myself, inspired by W.E.B. Du Bois, just last month), and it works even better when the differences in scale are that large, but the colors emphasize the smaller categories, and the ordering is off like you write
