Mrs. Volts & I are sitting down to try to figure out exactly what we're subscribed to and consolidate some of them. It is an unholy, kafkaesque nightmare.

Thinking of leaving Spotify, experimenting with Apple Music (Mrs. Volts gets it for free already). Immediately I notice it has one *headsmackingly obvious* feature that Spotify lacks, namely, when it's doing auto-curation, there's an option to tell it YOU DON'T LIKE THE SONG.
The evergreen reality that programmers absolutely think they know what you like better than you do. Always. They are *never* wrong. So why would we give you a button to say we are?
How I yearn to be able to block Fleetwood Mac from all playlists. Apparently I am 100% the sort of person who algorithmically should love Fleetwood Mac. Mais non.
It is just f'ing amazing to me that Spotify has all these algorithms but you *can't improve them*. You can't tell it you don't like a song -- you can only skip it.
The shittiness of Spotify AI really bugs me for some reason.
I had a maddening experience with Amazon Music. For the podcasts side of the app, *you can't change the playlist order* (and it doesn't add new episodes to the bottom of the list, it adds them to the top!)
I don't understand why they can't add this really basic function.
@volts.wtf this is the only good thing Spotify has ever given us - a song slagging them off. (Po is German slang for excrement). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uk64V9h0Ko
Actually the real problem is if you ever have to skip the same song three times. Skipping it twice should tell their algorithm everything it needs to know.
Never understood the cultish draw of Spotify. Built a solid foundation on Apple Music and it serves me very well. Welcome to pillage my playlists: https://music.apple.com/profile/Markhamnolan
Holy hell, that's a good idea. I keep skipping certain songs hoping that auto-curation will get the hint.
I'm switching to Tidal, which doesn't have much auto-curation, but does have better sound, which is also a great feature.
Er, am I missing something? On Spotify there’s a + and a - if you select a song: + adds it to your like, - tells it that you don’t like it and won’t add it to playlists.
Does what Apple Music offer differ? I’ve not used their service
I also find Apple’s auto-curation to be vastly better than Spotify. It doesn’t just play similar stuff, it plays similar stuff it knows you like while still throwing in something new periodically.
I’m not a Spotify booster - they don’t pay large enough royalties to artists, but I am in the top 7% of listeners worldwide and I want to offer a rebuttal. Spotify doesn’t need a dislike button. Start with playlists of genres you like or songs you already know and build a Like playlist.
For me it’s Indie pop, Indie rock and EDM. Create a playlist of your Liked songs. Skip songs you don’t like enough to even finish, or listen if you’re not sure. It took me about six months to build my Like playlist to 1000 songs. Every Sunday a Discover weekly playlist drops. Listen & build.
As I built my Liked playlist I also built a Favorite playlist of about 100 songs that are too great to be in a big library. I listen to these special mood lifters whenever needed. And I have a playlist of special songs that i don’t want to hear often but are special and don’t want to lose them.
If you’re into music like me you can then build other playlists of favorite bands or favorite genres. I’ve got about 200 of those. I’ve got a pop music playlist, Oldies, dance, rap, and Irish music for example. For bands I’ve got Illenium, Aviici, Matt Kearney, Walk the Moon and more.
However, having a standalone Hulu subscription forced me to get a MyDisney account, which then screwed up my ability to log into Hulu in the first place.
Same with delivery of groceries. Delivery time, day, and discount is a system of 3 linear equations. I've 140 items in my shopping basket since 2022 because I find it too overwhelming.
If I remember correctly, when you sign up, it asks you for a “donation“ amount monthly. You get to choose how much you want to give them but they make a suggestion for what is usual. They make money off of understanding your finances and making recommendations of products based on that info.
Just now heard of it myself, so I all know is what I read 5 seconds ago, but earlier in the thread someone said Rocket Money app does that. Someone else added they ask for a donation rather than charge a specific amount.
One challenge is that some subscriptions are only billed annually, so looking at a monthly statement is insufficient. If your cards give you an annual summary that's a huge help.
I keep an Apple Note for just this purpose and update it whenever I sign up for something new or remove something. Even if I miss a few things, it's at least in the ballpark...
Gotta be careful, though. They won't start emailing until AFTER you owe them money. So now you have to give them a different credit card to pay off the balance...
Nope. I had to get a new card due the other being compromised and ANEX took care of all the subscriptions. Freaked me out when I contacted the first few and they had the new numbers!

Apple for music.
Does DVC provide it? Wait the cell company provides access to something. We can bundle Max with what?cancelling it from the cable.
Uber then offered us a reduced subscription rate *and* a free Disney Plus subscription (but only HD). I think that was overall a win.
suddenly you are deluged by emails telling you which payments stopped working
seems like that should be private. ime it's not
