Spending money on hardware, not on overly-optimized array layout. This is the vibe I want to see in the US. Panels are getting comically, ridiculously cheap. Put them on things, stop worrying about theoretically, ideally, perfectly maximized. More panels in more places. Point them toward the sun.

Negative impacts from runoff and microclimate modifications need to be minimized, but otherwise completely agree.

We also need to figure out how to get the PV produced power connected to our grids faster and easier though too before we can mimic what's going on in China etc.

In China's high PV+wind areas in the northwest, the transmission capacity already existed because they built tens of GW of mine-mouth coal-fired capacity in the '90s and early '00s and the high capacity transmission to carry it to load centers.

TX prudently did this for wind 20 years ago, and that same capacity is being used for solar. Much of the transmission capacity built in the '70s and '80s to move power from mine-mouth coal plants in the Southwest to urban load centers also exists but is nowhere near fully utilized by solar + wind.

Oh if only we could build transmission and diplomatic ties with, say, areas with low populaiton and high base-load loving generation. (Any reference to to US NE ISOs is a conincidence).
