Mount Tambora equption mentioned! Someone get the domino meme ready to explain Mormonism. More seriously though, this is a fascinating thread. Click through and read the rest of it. No Mormonism mentioned.

Been a while since I've seen someone call the Republican party a death cult, but I'd say this fits that bill.

there is a lot to unpack here, none of it good

Republicans have claimed to care about the deficit for decades, but every time they gain power they use the bulk of their political capital to increase it while cutting programs that help so many people and are but a small fraction of our total government spending. They are not fiscal conservatives.

Legal experts please make sense of this. A cynical person may see the common thread as the court choosing any side that results in environmental protections being weakened, never the other way around.

It has long been clear DOGE's numbers are made up, but here in response to my comment they're giving up the game: They're not doing anything like cost-benefit analysis. "Savings" is a transfer from U.S. households to businesses. It's grift all the way down. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/u...

I wish more people understood how corrosive it is that the feds are wasting the precious time of little rural towns like mine this is a place where people remember and resent things for generations, and we are never too far away in time from some sort of government rug pull

“The bill ordered the Utah health department to commission a systematic review of medical evidence around the treatments, with the goal of producing recommendations for the legislature on whether to lift the moratorium.” The review is in:

Honest question to the Always Online: How many of you knew that H.R.1 included a provision that makes it all but impossible for courts to hold government officials in contempt of court orders? www.thedailybeast.com/hidden-threa...

the thing I always come back to when we get these “wow, scandalous behavior isn’t being treated as scandalous” headlines is that the people involved know how to make things into a scandal we saw it with the Harvard “plagiarism” scandal we saw it with Biden’s age it is a deliberate choice

Huh, I just noticed that Kirsten Dunst voiced Kiki in Kiki's Delivery Service. Based on when it came out in English, looks like she was ~15 at the time

Flashback to his first term when he alluded to yacht orgies while speaking to a crowd of teenagers at the Boy Scout Jamboree
