The actual answer is that K12 education in the US is a catastrophe. Some 30-40% of students need remedial education. That's far too high. None of those kids should be going to college either.

Ehh. No. Some need full spectrum remedial education, but many are single subject, due in part to our testing focused education system. I know people who can write beautiful poetry but are TERRIBLE at math. Full-ride lit scholarships, but needed remedial maths. Inverse is true for humanities.

And student athletes, and humanities majors. Harvard actually has a whole curriculum, as linked up-thread, because of problems with the US education system that we exacerbated by COVID.

The majority require multiple remedial of courses and the majority of those will never exit remedial classes or earn a degree. Given that most jobs shouldn't even need a degree, it's an absolute waste of their time, money, and effort. We shouldn't have these kids in college. K12 should be better.

Exactly! They would have nearly no American public school kids in the last couple classes otherwise. ALL of the spots would be taken by kids from out of the country.

Also, she could do with a remedial class or two herself. Do they have AI trained by dictators and 8-year-olds doing their editing?
