This is an opinion based on fear, oppression, and jealousy. If you were rich, you would think differently. There are people with loads of money that do absolutely great things and have zero intentions of controlling governments.

Several years ago I read that someone who was quite wealthy was trying to con the public on the idea that the concentration of wealth didn't matter. Today they have such a hold on government that it makes it nearly impossible to get change through politics. Ordinary people have to be involved!

You are right, it's been going on a long time, especially ramping up during the Gilded Age. Citizens have not been privy for many reasons, not least of which - it's been hidden on purpose. The difference now - the oligarchy is proudly flying their colors. It's a good thing the masses are waking up.
It is easy for billionaires to be in government because there is a critical mass of blockheads prepared to vote for them or for politicians bought by them.

Moreover, whilst some of the ulta-wealthy may indeed be well-intentioned & genuinely philanthropic, it's the ones with malevolent ambitions who try to buy governments
