We are a day or two away from the United States Constitution being a dead letter. This is not hyperbole. This is not me be being a doomer. This is a basic legal and political fact. The math, as I see it. 🧵

We have an unelected and unaccountable billionaire wielding state power to unilaterally cancel Congressional appropriations while others in the Trump administration have issued or orders or have taken acts which, under the law, are the province of Congress.
Congress has refused to do anything to assert or to protect its Constitutionally-derived powers, choosing instead to meekly submit and defer to the president and to the unelected and unaccountable billionaire.
To date the only check that has existed on this abuse of power has been the issuance of several court orders and injunctions, but there is mounting evidence that executive branch officials have been disregarding these court orders.
Popular Information reports the Trump administration is still prohibiting NIH staff from issuing grant funding. The funding freeze at NIH violates two other federal court injunctions. There is every reason to believe that other funding freezes are still in effect despite injunctions to the contrary
Judges have the power to hold those who violate their court orders in contempt and, if necessary, to jail those who do not comply with their court orders. Either the attorneys or the parties to the litigation themselves. That includes government attorneys/parties.
