I'm currently reading a book about the Tudors. The chapters about how everything came to a screeching halt and how, eventually, the world would be drenched in blood all because a selfish and narcissistic king wanted everyone to change what had always worked are hitting a bit too close to home.

The Tudors came to power at the end of a long troubled period in England. A healthy male heir was considered essential for a safe succession in order to avoid another “Wars of the Roses” type of situation.

I still think Meyer underestimates the need for male succession in the divorce business.
Catherine was becoming less able to bear children. Anne was more likely to give him a son.
In the end, ironically, his succession was dominated by his daughters.
