Wow, read it. I'd say there needs to be a louder voice explaining this to the voters. Illinois did something similar with a bill that changed our Constitution. They love to put 'feel good' titles on their bills when the bills are actually anti-voter.
You've become one of my favorite people I follow. I'm from a red state and your explanations of how red voters think and what red politicians do has really put into words things I've struggled to explain. This is such a great explanation as to why "leave it to the states" just doesn't work and why.
I really hope 1A doesn't get overturned for you guys. I know it must be so frustrating for you guys to do the work they told you to do, just to try to flush it down the toilet. They don't care about what the people actually want.
Leave it to the states might work if voters took the time and had the capacity to align their candidate votes to the initiative vote on their progressive values.
State and local governments would be blue as hell if people could recognize and address their cognitive dissonance
Dems have failed at connecting with these voters and being the loudest voice in the room. You cannot expect people who are working 60 hours a week just to make ends meet to be putting in research.
Absolutely. But Dems have to quit hoping they will do that. Red voters tend to be the poorest voters. So, they vote on the loudest voices that assure them they will reduce costs.
Agree that a change in tactics is necessary to make them aware that they are sawing off the tree branch they are sitting on. It’s going to take grass roots, 1:1 conversations because
1. They won’t change media sources
2. They won’t sit in large groups because they don’t want 2b embarrassed or shamed
Abrams didn't even know the names of the towns that were hit and mispronounced the one she did know. She came to the nearest populated area that wasn't even hit badly. Voters notice these things. I voted for her twice but dems keep making this mistake.
Oh absolutely. One of the biggest mistakes I saw Stacy Abrams make in GA's gubernatorial race was that she didn't meet with rural voters. She focused in Metro areas and was determined to let them carry her.
As they are harmed by the outcomes of policies enacted by the people they voted for, we need to listen and help them connect the dots. Lecturing and shaming won’t work.
Missouri Dems and other honest people need to keep calling this crap out. Eventually, people will wake up to what's happening. I know it's hard, but just keep on keepin' on.
It's up and down the spectrum in MO. Platte County commissioners want to overturn the vote of the people on a children's services tax, because they want to interpret wording as "the commission may vote" or "may vote not to."
The majority of MO voters are progressive thinkers. But MO voters don’t pay attention to politics after they vote. They remain loyal to the (R) behind the candidate names because they have no idea what happens in Jeff City. They have blind trust. The woman you spoke with is a perfect example.
You are doing amazing work. I don’t understand how people can’t see it when over and over again they vote in favor of progressive initiatives and then turn right around and vote for people that will overturn it. It’s so discouraging.
What in the actual hell are we doing? Why are Missourians voting for progressive initiatives and then voting for those who will not honor their vote? What is going on? Well, a lot…
Thanks Jess it’s mind boggling to me but also why many of us call this Misery. I thought this past election things would change with leadership but I was wrong. Thank you for all your hard work, I hope we can become at the least purple
It’s bad here in NC too but we do elect democrats. However, the GOP controls the GA & is constantly trying to take power away from the people & from democrats by gerrymandering & passing BS power grabs. But pretty soon, this state will be reliably purple & their tactics will no longer work.
I admire you so much. I live in a red state and I don’t come out of my blue shell often but since the election, I depend on people like you to tether me to the sane side.
I don't know when people will finally understand that conservatives only goal is to be rich and press others, especially women. That way troglodytes like Nick Fuentes and the Charlie Kirks of the world can try to rule over us.
There are people in this nation whose attention spans can be measured in tenths of a second. Missouri's Prop 3 is legislation that would affect generations now and to come. Unfortunately those like the woman you mentioned only seem interested in the now, as in the current price of eggs. WTF?
It's the same here in Europe, although our election modes are different and we have more than 2 parties. People (especially women on one hand and poor people on the other) vote against their personal interests, social media amplifying this.
The USA has always been at least one step ahead in these trends, first establishing democracy and now abolishing it (hopefully not but it looks scary from outside)
We need people like you everywhere on this planet, so thank you for what you do, it matters!
The beginning of The Handmaidens Tale coming into being? The Patriarch appears to be alive and kicking. Personally I don't think anyone has any right to tell a woman what she's allowed to do with her body, it's got jack sh*t to do with anyone else
Covid is affecting both male and female fertility. The Federalist Society published a piece on how to increase birth rates - by discouraging higher education and diverting public school funding to specific Christian Schools bcuz religious people tend to have more kids…
People have to wake up and vote based on their values and beliefs and not if the candidate is listed under a R or D column on the ballot.
People would not tolerate being lied to or harmed by their family, friends, mechanic, grocer, etc - so why do they tolerate politicians doing so? This must stop
My dad voted Repub, but also voted in favor of A3. He said he has 4 girls so it only made sense. I told him that it made zero sense cause Repubs would only try some way fight against it. He called me stupid...literally. I am baffled by my highly educated dad because here were are....
Just curious, does your dad now understand what you were trying to tell him? I’ve discussed this with Repubs who voted yes on 3, and they are so surprised their party would overturn their vote. It’s difficult to say “I told you so” without making them feel stupid. Maybe they need to feel stupid.
I tried. He still thinks they won't overturn it, but I've got no faith in this state. Honestly, we're barely talking now cause I'm so disappointed in the convos we had after the election. He and my other sis are deep into Trump/Fox despite the other 3 of us that keep trying to get through them. :(
You're right and I appreciate all you do! I learned from dealing with the landfill issue that, unfortunately, minds are reluctant to change unless it hits them personally and that's heartbreaking. Utter lack of empathy. Anyway, rock on!
Thank you for your kind words. Sadly, it's not just your demographic. I've talked to women my own age, early 40s (and my sisters' age, mid-20s), who voted the same way, and I just don't understand.
This does explain a lot about them.
"“The constitutional amendment will force his hand on legalized abortion and I trust him on the economy.”"
The voters still believe in the Constitution when the republican party does not, republican or right leaning "Independent"voters just can't grasp that.
I hear you. But WHY do the people keep voting these people into office year after year; voting against their own interest. Voting for reproductive rights AND Republicans makes no sense.
When we moved to MO it was purple. A Dem Guv, and a Dem senator. I’m tired of the antics, the legislators prefer to rule rather than govern. Voters be damned. No MO rep or senator has ever bothered to answer my polite inquiries. We are leaving the state. Enough is enough.
"The economy" is like "faith", "freedom", and "family values."
It's another dose of political pablum that people seem to swallow without knowing what it means. We need to ask them specifically how a candidate will help/hurt THEIR finances, not an economy they cannot explain.

Your words would go on blast for all to see.

Christians stormed our Capitol and smeared their seditious 💩.
Christians.
Say the seditious elephants name.
It's not just red states that do this however. Has happened several times here in blue MA.
Not on this issue. Also MA not as blue as it used to be either. Scary.

I’m sorry. So many my age or + just seem to be flat earthers or selfish assholes straight to the ground.
Women; our spouses daughters, nieces, granddaughters deserve better.
