I left teaching after 16 years and a Master’s degree and tenure.
I was making 41K per year. After taxes and retirement deductions, I lived on $2400/month.

I don't get it...
When I left public HS teaching, I had a BS and an MS in science, and an MA in teaching. I had seven years of science work experience, followed by 7 years of HS teaching experience in the best paying district in NC.
I was making $25K/year.
I looked it up. The CEO of this organization is making $15 mil. a year. The avg teacher pay for this organization was $55,000.
Teachers in Missouri may think that amt. is great. They won't look up how much the CEO is making.
And the voucher scam push is big here.
And teachers will give in to the momentary reprieve of being able to teach online or thinking they're going to get a pay hike and will vote against their own self-interests again.
Then TN passed a law saying anyone with a high school education OR military service could teach. She quit- became a nail tech & makes 6x what she did as a teacher working 4days a wk.
Love you Jess! You’re a hero and you’re inspiring me to work local! I have even gotten my Republican diehards to work local to exclude MAGA from local government. I may not switch their political party, but they will be activists against MAGA.
the children are unvaxxed, and are now old enough to work at mcdonald's...and i think the youngest one, at 20ish, still can't read
these are my estranged trumper half-sister's people...it's a disgrace
Other countries/orgs will be snapping them up. Bonus: they don’t have to live here.
That year, as an Adjunct, I made $11,520 gross. I could have made more $ correcting English as a convenience store counter clerk than teaching it in a Uni.

LOW: Teaching in rural MO, I earned so little that when I moved to STL, I nearly doubled my salary to 45k
UNFAIR: 2 master’s degrees and 30 yr of experience gave me a livable wage at a high-paying district. Districts a few mi. away paid much less—for more students
I am so sorry.
But at some point Women need to vote with their labor. Staying in a Red state that continues to devalue them while taking away their rights makes no sense.
Any female graduate or worker should be applying to jobs outside of republican control.
I was the band director and they gave me a $2,000 budget and a $1,000 stipend.
Resigned in December, been looking for work ever since.

It's disgraceful, and it's why we're in this dystopian mess!

Public education is terrible, we pay teachers too much!
Let’s give public education dollars to private schools.
Fvck
I have 2 master's degrees (M+30) and take home probably ~4k/month after taxes but before retirement. I'm step 7. My district tops out near 120k/year at step 16 M+30 rn.
We also used to be able to write our own curriculums. We used to get to teach. We used to get to make impressions.
Now, kids get tablets and ICE.
Now they're doing layoffs in some districts. The districts that have many parents doing vouchers, voted to not renew anything for these districts. It's incredible what is happening. Our advocates seem soft. I'm infuriated. We can't lose this.
And they resent me for it. I paid into Social Security.
Nothing would get me back in a K-12 classroom.
When we returned, I looked at the teacher and said, “I don’t know how much you make—just that it’s not enough.”
Not a plan to recruit and retain the best educators.
Single teachers and teacher couples live in poverty here.
They ought to give everybody free lunches anyway!
