Costco, please don't cave. I am proud you have taken a stand against trashing DEI. I have been a Costco member for 42 years, and because of your support for DEI, I will continue shopping Costco for as long as I can. Thank you, Costco.
Notice the language, “illegal.”
The press sec used it yesterday too. That is the crux of how they are going to lord over us-making normal things illegal so they can arrest and control us.
The origins of laissez-faire are associated with the Physiocrats, a group of 18th-century French economists who believed that government policy should not interfere with the operation of natural economic laws
Dei benefits white women the most so they are saying white men the most privileged group in this country is being discriminated against 🙄 Costco keep being you.
There’s no inherent “merit” in being white. This bullying is affirmative action for imaginary white guys banging down the doors for a job at Costco. (Respect for all the people working there. It’s a dynamic environment, to say the least.)
Only Republicans could frame DEI as racist to cloak themselves in a veneer of "equality". These people are sick. We can see straight through them and if it wasnt known to them, the KKK and Neo Nazis love the Republican Party right now.
It’s so frustrating the way they spin things for their uneducated base. DEI was created to prevent discrimination ending it just opens the door for white men to be racist and misogynistic in their hiring practices. Next they’ll want to bring back segregation.
Costcos in St Louis always have long lines at the gas station with cars displaying Illinois plates. Can you imagine a state complaining that Costco sales are coming even from out of state? Missouri should be happy for the tax revenue Costco generates!
I'm speechless, so this 🍊 fascist's disgusting cabinet is ordering corporations to abolish DEI? Their bogus argument is that it discriminates against what? Disgusting thugs, they pervert DEI and twist its meaning. I hope Costco has a chance to stand firm. I'm furious about their insolence.🤬
It is irresponsible to report "Republican attorneys generals signing on..." without mentioning RAGA ( Republican Attorney Generals association) that coordinates these partisan letters for their masters that feed them. Has nothing to do with the merits of claims, the law, or their own constituents.
Costco should just close down their Missouri locations and move more to blue states. I know I could use a few more in western waiting. We live our Costcos! And their DEI policies. Let these states lose that revenue FAFO
So these AGs took the energy and time to draft this but didn’t care enough about their own constituents to join the Democratic AGs who all filed suits against the federal funding freeze
It’s about Government Control.
That’s Project 2025. And that’s the #Trump agenda.
@usatodayopinion.bsky.social apparently supports the Government intervening in private business.
They all got the memo. Pitiful that these punks are admitting they can’t compete on a level playing field. My kids at 5 were tougher. They are incels for good reason.
DEI is, by it's very nature, anti-discriminitory. If they can't use it, that makes discrimination legal... so they want to sue them... for not discriminating?
When I picked up my membership card yesterday and told the Costco employee why I was rejoining, she said she’s had a number of people sign up because of their DEI stance.
She said “maybe I should tell mgmt.”. Hell yes! Tell everyone.
We appreciate that! As a Costco employee, in the last 24 hours we’ve had 2 people call and come in to tell us to stop DEI policies and it’s so scary and disheartening.
My concern with this is Jeff Bezos getting involved with this and pressuring Costco corporate up here in Washington by threatening to pull Amazon from our state. All these games they play.
I’m confused - why would Costco care if Amazon pulled out of Washington? Seems like more of a headache for Amazon, and I get the jobs lost, but Costco seems to be the one that comes out ahead in this scenario.
I didn’t mean Costco would necessarily care, I meant the state government would care because they know people would lose jobs and they would take the heat for that. Trump will find a way to pressure Costco.
I got you. Amazon should try receiving its half a billion dollars in subsidies from one of the poor red states then. Thankfully fewer states are more blue than WA and they I hope they decide to support the business decisions of Costco and any others.
But private companies are private, and they can do whatever they want I thought that these business men believe… oh, I’m wrong aren’t I? They actually mean people can only do whatever they allow people to do that they want them to do… No freedom at all actually
Millions of taxpayer dollars wasted to say ‘it’s discrimination if you give anyone other than mediocre white men a job!’ America is so pathetic at this point.
He writes as if the Republican Party is the Borg. I am so at odds with a state that passes progressive legislation and elects such horrendous people. And I do live here. How do I get involved with grassroots orgs in Missouri?
This is 1984 upside-down thinking.
Say there is no DEI law, because that is discrimination. Managers, through owners, make sure they don't hire anyone who's too old, too young, a woman or a man, or wrong color or gay or trans, or has the wrong religion.
They can discriminate any way they please.
If Hobby Lobby can refuse to cover birth control because forcing it to do so violated its freedom of religion, how is forcing Costco to abandon its expansive hiring practices not a violation of Costco’s freedom of association?
Interesting twist to see a company being sued for having an anti discrimination policy. What do they need to do bring in consultants to teach employee how to discriminate against their customers?
Rhetorical question: what is the opposite of DEI for these people? How do they ‘know’ that hiring and promotions aren’t merit based? Not enough white men working there? Can’t use racial or sexual slights?
I just can’t.
Call their offices! I chewed out my AG (Chris Carr) over the phone yesterday to his staff about how sick I am of these centuries of racism, especially from people who have obtained much of what they own off the labor of the people they hate. Bullies are ultimately punk bitches! Never forget that!
He’s not just an AG, he’s a Trump acolyte. They don’t respect private rights, state’s rights, any rights except those exercised by Trump. His rights are all that matter.
Equal opportunity is evidently prejudiced against white people. I’m ashamed of my gender, the lack of melanin in my skin, and the nation I defended in the military. Old white men, in general, are holding this country back from achieving our aspirations. I wish there were more radical-left old men.
When I posted this, somebody replied to my post saying that Costco was a public company because there’s stock. 🙄🙄🙄
That’s not what I meant by private. 🙄🙄🙄
So, now hiring the minority with the same or better qualifications is illegal? They don't even try and hide their racism anymore! For them, any hire other than the white dood is DEI!
I sent an email to the Costco Board of Directors thanking them for continued commitment to DEI. Here’s the email I used [email protected]. I also sent a less friendly not to Target’s board at [email protected].
I sent a message to Costco customer service thanking them for supporting DEI, and thanked them again in the survey afterwards.
We've been members but don't go often because of our stores location. We now drive twice as far and past Target to shop there and my wife made a large run yesterday.
MAGA Republicans: Ordering free enterprise capitalist businesses to temporarily close in the middle of a pandemic killing millions is intolerable Communist dictatorship state intervention.
Also MAGA Republicans: We demand that Costco stop doing things we don’t like.
So…Freedom?
I do not understand why Missouri AG has standing on this. Does it hurt his feelings?
Costco does business with any and all Americans, which is why it’s good business for their employees to reflect their customers.
What proof does he have there is discrimination? That's a bold statement and outright lie. I see where he is going with this. Spread falsehoods so that politicians see it and believe it's truth.
Waste of tax$ private companies can hold whatever policies they want. Also, Costco can continue their DEI even if they comply by wiping it off the books..
They continue to show that they have no idea what DEI is OR they know and lie about it just to rile up their ridiculously ignorant maga base who doesn’t know any better
This is so indicative of Rethuglinazis. They have no right or law to do this. While Target, Tractor Supply and so many others have bowed to the orange calf, I really hope Costco stands strong.
You’re not going to believe this, but I overheard two loudmouth maga’s in the coffee shop yesterday, and they were griping about how Costco paying good wages was making everything higher at other places. (Not trump!)
“No one should be making $20 an hour to stock groceries”.
I'm confused are you saying there are no Costcos in Missouri? Or just no corp offices, etc? Because the best place to get alcohol is the Costco in Midtown KCMO 🤣 .
I was a thinking about moving to Overland Park area later this year among some other places, but I think that option just became a whole lot more attractive to me lol
Not saying you won’t deal with a lot of suburban MAGAs cosplaying rural Americans in Johnson County, but for now Laura Kelly seems to maintain balance.
It’d be a bummer if the MO GOP makes it too difficult to do business in MO, popular stores like Costco might just decide it’s easier to just close up shop.
Calling DEI initiatives discriminatory is clear cut gaslighting. Pay attention to this! Like when the county line liquor stores sponsored the effort to keep Pope county Arkansas dry using propaganda like, “don’t lose your (states) rights!!”… then lost our individual rights in the process.
I joined Costco today. I have been a member in the past and then tried Sam's, and with so many companies rolling back DEI, supporting Trump, etc I can't keep going there. These AGs can go fuck themselves🖕🏻

The press sec used it yesterday too. That is the crux of how they are going to lord over us-making normal things illegal so they can arrest and control us.
Unreal.
The French phrase laissez faire literally means “allow to do,” with the idea being “let people do as they choose.”
Seriously, though, what a colossal abuse of time and funds.
Hey! Hey! Mr. Trump! Over here! Look what I'm doing! I'm doing your bidding like a good Republican! Can I get a cushy job in the administration?
(Please don't primary me)
Store less crowded, gas lines minimal, parking available
I’ll shop there more often if maga are staying away
Just like how they lied about black lives matter meaning that white ones don't. Everything out of their toxic mouths is a lie.
It's like being mad at Obamacare but happy with the Affordable Care Act.
But we’re going after Costco.”
Those who screamed for “Freedom from Tyranny” ARE the tyrants.
We all know what he means is that white is not always the winning color.
What an odd thing to be proud of.
They'll lose of course.
just crashed and burned
This, the party of small government! 🙄
So.......?
Stick 'em up, mf.
"You can't call 'em n***ers any more."
It’s like arguing for whites only diners because integration discriminated against the rights of bigots. Unreal.
That’s Project 2025. And that’s the #Trump agenda.
@usatodayopinion.bsky.social apparently supports the Government intervening in private business.
It's perfectly legal. It's also perfectly moral and ethical.
Can we start calling out this lie that DEI is in any way illegal?
Call COSTCO HQ NOW NOW NOW! I just did!
I was told they are keeping a spread sheet for the DEI calls and it will be given to the CEO.
Costco needs to hear from us about standing behind the DEI policy and not buckling like Target.
425-313-8100 (hit Zero, speak to rep)
Bailey is a boot licking fan of President Felon and was under consideration to be US AG. Sounds like we are stuck with him.
She said “maybe I should tell mgmt.”. Hell yes! Tell everyone.

All these Republican AGs are Gaslighting Costco!
I just can’t.
RepublicHasFallen
I personally wrote one complaining about the state AG (😘) and explained that I didn't like my tax dollars getting wasted on nonsense.
That’s not what I meant by private. 🙄🙄🙄
Costco vs state of Missouri.
Has a pretty good marketing tone to it.
Generations of people talking about Costco fighting for your right to buy their stuff.
We've been members but don't go often because of our stores location. We now drive twice as far and past Target to shop there and my wife made a large run yesterday.
Also MAGA Republicans: We demand that Costco stop doing things we don’t like.
I do not understand why Missouri AG has standing on this. Does it hurt his feelings?
Costco does business with any and all Americans, which is why it’s good business for their employees to reflect their customers.
Well, I guess Costco could just exit those states and continue focusing on their international expansion.
“No one should be making $20 an hour to stock groceries”.
If Costco isn’t there, there is no grounds for legal action.
MBM
When the new prices hit the stores people will use Costco like during the pandemic. I think they already know that.
Costco is a private company. They have the right to make their own rules.
