My mom died two weeks ago, she was supposed to have her check deposited today and it was not. Elon Musk is making things up. The process from SS worked.
From experience I can tell you it’s true. When my dad passed on 08/3/24 they stopped my dad’s check the same day the funeral home wrote the health department. My mom had to fight for the check in August because he was alive the whole month of July so he was entitled to the check for August.
Thanks it definitely a rough time because we were paying for the funeral among other things. My mom couldn’t afford not receiving my dad’s SS check. They’re both retired so that along w my dad’s pension was their only income. But it all worked out eventually. Losing my dad has been rough.
They must be getting meaner. My mom died on January 3, 2016. When I called to tell them, they said her check would still be deposited because she had lived through the whole of December. I didn't have to fight for it at all.
When she called they had no explanation why the check was stopped. They even told my mom to call the bank to see if they held it. Which we knew they didn’t. But ultimately they sent it a few days later.
People who are 360 years old are getting welfare, it's not as good as the nine month abortions, that was a winner, you deserve everything you idiots are getting, really. Take a while before it infects Australia, if they do, if it does, we're still a long way away.
We are the bad guys, he didn't do it out of any moral imperatives I think was the judge's point, but I take the point, the Liberals just won two State elections on the back of a promise to lock up 10YO Aboriginal kids in adult jails against the United Nations conventions of protections of the child.
People who are allegedly older than the entire country and alive well before welfare ever existed are not collecting welfare here. Our welfare system has only existed since the 1960s. And we only have our fucked up system because Republicans didn't want a Minimum Basic Income for poor people.
It does make much more sense, most of the crime that occur is essentially below the poverty line and if you were to raise it, it wouldn't have anything to feed upon - drugs essentially, liberate drugs and freedom follows, alongside the risks, but fewer than those that inspire the likes of Al Capone.
Australia has a similar problem of seeing themselves as the original inhabitants of their land, such is their disrespect for the real native people they displaced from their lands and slaughtered.
Trump style colonisation. We lost a lot of lives stealing this land from those own once lived here, mostly they died of pink eye, and surly that means we get to keep it!
Haha..."they had all that REAL ESTATE for all those YEARS they didn't build ANYTHING! Well move them INDIANS to CUBA and build nice CASINOS on them reservations I heard they eat the local BUFFALO can you believe that!"
Reminds me of my racist grandmother, bless her soul, American cousins visiting from Louisiana, she says, in the car, "Those Aboriginal savages hadn't even built themselves any houses when we arrived, we gave them everything they now have, how ungrateful they are!" - can you imagine! From Louisiana.
Thank you-like his buddy Trump, every time he is going to fire another employee who was part of an investigation into him and one of his companies, he has to say things like that to distract us from what he is really doing.
Everyone should file FOIA to find out about the investigations.
If you use alt text on images you post, you will reach more people. You will reach those who use screen readers, those who block screenshots from Nazi owned websites, and many, many more. Plus, it will tell people (read constituents) that you give a damn.
Yep. The day after my mom died the funeral home let me know they’d informed SS that she had died. I’m not saying there might not be a handful of errors, but not wholesale graft that Musk is alleging.
My Mom and brother both passed in recent years and our funeral home took care of this for us. Such a relief, one less thing to worry about in a stressful time
Yea some ppl believe 350 year olds are getting social security checks. Like what the actual…it hasn’t even been around for 100 years yet & the US isn’t that old. It’s sad that teachers believe this…🤦🏻♀️
Nurse here. One of the worst things we see in ICU are the families that want to keep the checks coming; so, at their request, extraordinary measures are taken to keep the loved one alive. And, we can keep you alive long after you would want to be kept alive.
Lost my father last year, an election year and as soon as his death was recorded, the Maricopa County Elections office sent a notice to his home address basically telling anyone there that it was a crime to try and mail vote on his behalf.
And if their loved one tries to vote for them posthumously, the fraudster gets charged, as seen with the two or three people who tried to send in their parents mail in ballot for Trump when the dead died days before the election… iT wAs ThEiR LaSt WiSh bs
That's what I was planning to do only to find out it was already done. 👏 My state has lots of checks and balances (unless you count R purging voter rolls). Good thing we have same day registration if you have proper documents to do so.
Yes! I work in Waiver and when a client passes we have to send forms to the state and federal board of Medicaid/Medicare and to Social Security. Every. Single. Person.
Social Security Administration is the most secure agency when it comes to disbursement. They don't play with you. They will send you to jail for any kind of fraud.
Elon Lying ? nawww you gotta be wrong. Trump says he's not . Isn't that all we need, I mean since they've been dating they look like such a nice couple.
Sadly I don't think the people that will read this are the ones that need to. I'd say most of us here know Elon is lying. Those that need to be told don't read so well, so we will have to figure out a picture book for them.
I don’t think everyone will believe that if they’ve had a loved one die. I mean death is pretty common. It’s not like his supporters don’t experience that around them. They have Google. They have to know half the shit he says isn’t accurate.
They also could have used Google to find out how tariffs work... Heh. Or go into a deep dive about the wild spectrum of sex (as in the parts, not the act) in the amazing world of genetics and biological development. It's their lack of intellectual curiosity that I will never be able to understand.
Maybe his supporters are the ones who never reported the death, buried the body in the backyard and are collecting checks for their 150 year old loved one. Lol.
I’m not saying they’ve had to personally deal with it themselves. I’m saying it’s likely they know someone who has had to. You can’t watch someone in your family die and not know that someone else has had to do that paperwork. Or they’re just feigning ignorance.
You would think but I have still seen some of them spreading misinformation that him and Trump say. My mom had a coworker thanking Elon for lowering out debt and its like so easy to prove that he's done nothing but harm us
I agree they’re delusional but I also think it’s that incel anger at ‘sticking it to the libs’ or whatever shit they think they’re enjoying. When it hits them that they’re also paying higher prices, their meds cost more or worse, aren’t avail anymore, we’ll see.
Preferably before their pain really spreads to the innocent ones. But you are correct, most people only respond to pain. Self reflection is a dark cave full of scary monsters to too many people.
Could be widows/widowers or mentally disabled people. There are a lot more young people than folks realize who receive SS checks. El musky and his frat boys don't seem interested in using discernment. It seems like dismantling gov before 47's first 100 days arrive is the plan.
And any money that is distributed from their SS is for their minor children! My daughter’s father died, she started receiving SS checks monthly, and now we haven’t gotten them since this administration took over. I’m sick over this. My daughter deserves the money her father worked hard for!
She is 5. We haven’t gotten the check at all this month. And our insurance is now all of the sudden not covering certain visits. I don’t know if they’re related but it’s fishy for sure!
Yes they do. My husband died, I had to send by fax the authorization for the cremation to the funeral home and handling of the remains within 24 hours. They then filled out their paperwork and sent it to the state and notified SS.
Musk, cashing someone else's SS checks is fraud. Fraud is a criminal offense under the criminal court system and subject to jail/prison. Being an undocumented migrant is a civil offense under immigration law (civil court system) and subject to deportation.
Fax is a direct connection between two and supposedly more secure but now there’s e-fax so it’s not. But that’s why fax seems to have continued to exist
The reasons are lazy. Encryption is secure. The military uses it for everything, it’s not like they fax stuff. Same for banks. Just healthcare related uses fax machines.
There are sometimes cases where Social Security direct deposits go out to deceased individuals after they die…but **banks are obligated to return them to the SSA.** This is not a situation where dead people keep receiving check after check after check.
Ad that only happens if someone kills them or hides the death to keep the checks, which does happen, but rarely. And Elon wouldn't know those folks were dead, because no one does.
Very few of us have a problem with that small risk of fraud.
Unless you’re personally filling out every SSA-721 yourself, you have no clue what actually happens. Errors, delays, and unreported deaths do happen—Social Security even admits it. Blanket statements like this are pure arrogance. Maybe fact-check before spewing nonsense.
I can attest to the validity of this post. Mom died in June. The funeral home notified SSA - her bank accounts were frozen and Social Security deposits were returned immediately.
For everybody here, who’s shocked about the use of a fax machines, yes that’s what the Social Security administration request us to do. They want us to fax the form as well as mail the hard copy.
All the secure solutions cost and require $$$ from the federal government to implement and modernize. Months if not years to do well.
Yes, fax sucks and VoIP has removed the last valid security argument about it being point to point. We should fix it but it will cost time and money to do.
Absolutely. If you’ve ever lost anyone on Social Security, you know this fact intimately. The SSA is wildly efficient at terminating benefits once that form is received.
And there in lies the problem !
Most all these things he tells us, to justify his evil ass doings and to make you think that your government has been cheating US, are all just a bunch of made up stories, designed to incite US & draw our ire !
Just like trump & vance do !
I can attest to that - my mother died at the end of the month, and the funeral director warned me that while her Social Security benefit would be deposited to her account on the 1st, the government would take the deposit back. And they did, on the 2nd.
Well, Trump did bury his first wife on his golf course for tax benefits, so when that's your line of thinking, you assume that everyone else is as mercenary and disgusting as you.
Cold man, but damn it if ain’t true! Look at poor Ivanka. She buried it that Orange jackass’s golf course in NJ. There’s pics on the internet. They couldn’t care less abt her. But I wanna know what’s in the coffin. I bet more classified documents it took 10 men to haul that casket out of the church?
Ivanka's grave is a tax dodge, not a hidden trove of classified documents. Ivanka really got done dirty. First, she had to be married to and have sex with an orange blob, then has her body dumped at one of his shitty golf courses.
Funeral Directors are patriots too. Little known factoid: I sold advertising space in the National Funeral Director Magazine in 1992. It was as terrifyingly horrible as you might imagine.
Jeez Elon. Even I could've told ya that. In fact, if you die too early in the month, SSA claws back your check for that month. I'd call that agency pretty damn thrifty.
They haven't found payments to anyone that old either. On the SS website, it states that the payments automatically stop when one reaches 115 years of age.
Oh oh you mean somebody's telling a lie?! Could that be happening? Wouldn't we know if they were lying to us? would Republicans know if they were being lied to?? she said sarcasticically.
They should always be listened to. Families keep up that business because certain folks are wired to do that business and if they put themselves out there they tell the truth end of story
Can someone explain this to me. My mom died when I was 14 I’m now 29. So does all of her SS money that she paid into while working just go back to the government bc that makes me sooo mad. Like sure she’s not here anymore but I feel like my dad should get it or someone in the family. Not the govt.
A minor child of a deceased worker is entitled to some of her SS money until they are 18. Your father or guardian should have applied. But yes, everything put into SS stays with the government if not claimed. ( If you die anytime before taking benefits. Except for that crappy $255 death benefit)
Can claim as a spouse too, but there are income and age limitations. At 59, during Covid, with part time work I was able to claim late husband's benefits. Once back to full pay, I make too much to get it. Never mind we lived on 2 incomes entire marriage
Yeah I believe my dad tried to apply but he has a brain injury so he’s not the best at trying to figure things out. Thank you for your input! It’s very helpful. :)
I am sorry. They do not make it easy to navigate the system but I found once you get to one on one with local staff they at least are helpful. Navigating the disability part is even worse. My best friend took a year to qualify for disability.
It goes back into Social Security, the system that provides financial security for people as they age or face disabilities. Some pay in more as they made more money in their working years, some start collecting earlier than others due to disability, some live long and some do not.
My Dad's last check was deposited in December of 2019 then he passed away on Christmas day. God forbid we could even use the last check for funeral expenses. The small town bank clerk immediately returned it to the Social Security office.
My Mom passed away unexpectedly. She had a home oxygen machine through Medicare. The oxygen company called the next working day to schedule pickup. I hadn't even finished making her arrangements or told everyone at that point. The government notification process is insanely efficient.
That's weird. The day my husband died, I was returning to the house, and the nurse who was assigned to work with him didn't even know he'd been in the hospital. I got to tell her he'd died. Such fun.
oh yeah, there’s stories out there of families waiting to have their deceased family members picked up so they don’t lose their final Social Security check.
Agree.
Many medical bills!
Just like they make you wait 5 full months after disability is approved before payments begin.
And you may not receive any back payments.
I was conservator for my father. As such, I had court ordered access to his bank account. His bank received notice of his passing via Social Security & stopped payment to the funeral home!
Actually, that's fairly normal. Bank accounts get frozen at death. Can be a problem for joint accounts too.
If you'd been an executor you probably could have authorised the payment.
When my dad died, my mom got the small check, but when she died a few years later, there was no check. It only goes to the surviving spouse, not the kids.
Ah. Well I am fortunate enough to have been able to handle it. She's buried with my dad in a veteran's cemetery, which was at no cost to the veteran and his or her spouse.
So is my Dad. My Grandfather never served, he had polio as a child. It almost killed him..My parents were divorced so my mother was cremated. I have her ashes.
That's crazy cause my Grandmother got 500. And it was 1990. I wonder if it's dependent on the state by state or something. I swear that's what she got cause I saw the check. And I drove her to the bank.
Musk is way underqualified, underexperienced, undertrained, untrustworthy, dishonest to be tromping around in our our federal government offices and snooping around our personal records in a Social Security system whose value he couldn't begin to understand. He's like a
What I want Musk, Trump, and the rest of them to know is that love makes the world go round. And, if they were able to live like that, stop stealing from the underpaid and overtaxed to pay for their immoral tax cuts, they would not be destroying so many people's
That's not what I wrote. I was speaking about one person. I do not know if you are aware of his bigotry. That is the way most conservatives are (including, Trump), especially in the South where there were black slaves. That is the way it is in South Africa, where white colonists invaded the
Kinda supposed that, but thank you for sharing! 👍🏽
Can't help but notice that EVERY fucking bullshit claim they make, they haven't provided actual evidence. Just his comments of findings. 🙄
He didn't even say for certain they were getting paid, only that they were on the system. No everyone with a social security number is getting paid benefits. Shows how little he understands the systems he is stripping.
And what happened after that? Obviously there will be occasional administrative errors but they are claiming widespread fraud. Unless you are agreeing with them and are part of that fraud, you may want to clarify.
So just to be fair, folks who die whilst on SS at the hands of others who simply hide the body still get the SS. My god, this must be 10's of them annually!
Based on my experience working for another federal agency, the government is also relentless about recouping funds paid out incorrectly. At some point, a private company will cut its losses and write things off, but the government doesn’t do that.
Almost immediately after they deposited my mother's monthly payment into her bank account, they went in and reversed it after she passed away. I didn't have to notify anyone. It was all done automatically.
Yes exactly. I worked in Medicare insurance and of course, benefits ended the day of death but you might be surprised at the number of bills that came thru with date of service after death. Families would call for help to get providers to quit billing them.
My late husband’s SS stopped immediately upon his death. I didn’t have to notify SS office. What I had to do to claim the $255 SS death benefit was call them, set up an appointment, prove that I was eligible to receive this as his widow. No one is getting rich off social security. No one.
Frankly, not the people who don't need it, either. Benefit fraud is not a real problem, it's a fake boogeyman designed to make life as unpleasant as possible for people who depend on social security, invented by people who would prefer it didn't exist at all.
Correct as well. The only party that benefits is the social security administration and whatever politicians (now Musk, et al.) have their hands in that particular cookie jar
I've often said that since government assistance programs pay such peanuts, if anyone really wants to intentionally and actively live the sort of insanely austere life required to subsist solely off government benefits, let them, because the lifestyle is punishment enough for the matter.
Very true. I trade childcare duties for room & board. I can’t afford to live alone if I had to pay rent, utilities, insurance etc on SS, not in the PNW. Cost of living is too high here.
Same here. My husband SS stopped immediately also. I had to prove my name changes with marriage/birth and death certs & photo IDs. They take name changes seriously.
Funeral home contacted SS,
That’s the big question, and trump and musk have been able to convince people of widespread fraud with SS. The amazing fact is that many of these same people who believe these lies have already jumped thru the same hoops. Don jr was saying ‘tens of millions’ are committing fraud.
I was my mom’s next of kin, I called SS, they offered that amount for her funeral. I wanted to tell them to shove it up their ass! But thought better of it, and put it towards the funeral. As if they would make a dent, funerals are fukin expensive! Cost us $900 just to open the mausoleum wall.
No, I was 59 when he passed, not disabled and was still working (income from work is a factor). At 61, I retired and moved in w/family. Had to go in for interview and provide documentation and now it’s my sole income. I’m fortunate to have family that we have multi generational household.
I was working and not financially dependent on my husband, either. I wasn’t making a lot of $ though. Not disabled and wasn’t old enough to collect survivors benefits until age 60. I retired at 61 to help w/grandkids, now I’m getting survivors benefits that pay my few bills and I moved in w/family
Im not eligible because of my husband’s past as a Texas teacher. Even he got his benefits only because he had worked in CO and CA for many years. If he had stayed in TX he probably wouldn’t get those benefits either. And he only got about $300 a month.
FICA is federal income tax. Everybody pay that, though maybe some TX teachers earn so little it is effectively 0? Social security is a separate tax. Not sure if they pay it, but they can’t get benefits.
I think you missed the point. For at least 46 years (since my father passed), the death of someone is reported to the IRS. So, someone not reported for almost 70 years would be impossible. I can see a few slip ups. But not as many Musky and Donvict cooked up.
No sweetie, you missed the point the question was satire. Since satire often requires a sense of subtlety to understand it. I'll be sure to post a spoiler Alert with the satirical question or statement.
This is true. Social security knew a four full months before we did about my reclusive brother's death. Because the funeral home reported it right away.
Originally I think Musk said it was 12 people who were 150 seemingly getting benefits. Out of 67 million people (according to Google). It’s ridiculous. Even if he did find those records, it’s not material. It’s just headline grabbing nonsense.
Where are these 150 yr olds, Musk? Per Google..the oldest living person living in the U.S. is 114 yrs. The oldest person ever reached 122 yrs. So if there are 150 yr olds out there they should contact Guinness World Records. And here I thought he was supposed to be a genius.
I saw an article explaining that the age discrepancy was a glitch in the older Cobol programming language that converted dates prior to a certain cutoff. Basically a computer glitch not fraud in any sense.
COBOL was created before their parents were born. It works, but there's a lot of shortcuts because computers of the time filled entire rooms but had less memory than a 30 year old phone does today.
It was that COBOL defaults null dates to 1875 (dunno why, maybe 100 years before language developed?). So those people “receiving benefits for 150 years” are actually just the people for whom someone failed to enter the date when they started receiving benefits into the database.
he was quoting the number of people whose death were apparently not recorded.
Except if they died during the 1930s, just after social security got going, there's a likelihood that a death certificate never got issued or simply got lost or whatever.
My MAGA uncle was here today. Guess what he said:
People who are 150 yrs are getting social security and Ukraine started the war with Russia.
I told him
"You watch too much FoxNews "
I've done that. He won't listen. But today I did put on FoxNews Brett Bair by luck he had 3 guests on saying TRUMP was wrong Putin started the war & Putin is a dictator.
My uncle:
N O T H I N G
not a word !
MAGA only believe what FoxNews says.
My uncle is 86 😆
Hopefully it will start to sink in. Good to know there are a few folks still telling the truth at Fox. And perhaps when more and more goes wrong with what they are doing he will wake up.
I'm telling you it's FoxNews. We also discussed nuclear,FFA,IRS, SSA firings My uncle also saidI haven't heard any of that before"
I SAID : " that's bc FoxNews will not tell say anything negative about Trump. Maybe if you switch it up you will learn a few things that are true"
MY UNCLE:
S I L E N T
Your uncle is stubborn. Until it affects him, he'll stay in denial. You're a good nephew to try talking to him. My daughter has the same situation with her dad (my ex husband). He listens to conservative radio and so does his friends. Then they go to breakfast and complain about the Dems.
Oh boy...
The SSA stuff...
He says :
"IT won't affect me"
ME: "OK"
bc he's 86 I try not to push the facts however, sometimes I just can't help myself.
I love him & I don't have much more time with him. Example: superbowl Sunday when he got he here I said " NO POLITICS "
period.
😀
These instances do not add up to tens of millions of cases of fraud, nor would they be enough to account for the obscene amount of savings Elon is claiming to have "magically" found.
Again no proof… just like this : and this: and this:… scroll to the left. All are lies or misconstrued context. And on the 4.7 trillion… GAO (govt accountability office) watchdogs found this AND published it in March 2024!
Trust me when I say this - if a dc person has an account in the financial industry - it will be found out one way or another - financial industry’s tend to be very protective of their assets.
Yes. To be fair one death certificate, multiple accounts, same bank. Once they got that for mom's account it triggered all accounts. It was really quick.
I will add that there is a “survivor’s benefit” in the ballpark of $200, regardless of the amount the decedent paid over the course of their working life.
It is called INSURANCE for a reason. Think about how claims are paid for all other types of insurances and where the money comes from.
How do explain the evidence we have seen? I sent a form into the social security three times for myself and twice for my husband requesting tax to withholding. Two years later, nada. So unless you followed up to the ensure payments were stopped, you don’t know what you are talking about.
My Dad died last year at 97. An Italian immigrant, he worked in the US from 1960-65, then moved permanently to Canada. But he still got a small US pension for 30+ years after retiring. I assure you, the US checked on him *diligently* every few years to make sure he was still alive.
Anyway, Dad grew up under Mussolini, and said he never voted for a conservative, in Europe or North America, because according to him, the end result of conservatism would ALWAYS be Mussolini or worse.
Ofc he's lying & the question should be why he's getting away w/ it? That's bc tens of millions of people have NO CLUE how ANYTHING works in this country.
Of course he is, they're desperate to claim shit. That's my situation too, people are so enthusiastic about getting me that they'll spin & lie their asses off to do it. Build on BS, just anything & everything they can try to build bs on. They haven't a shred of integrity. If I had actually done -
- something awful, I wouldn't, as boldly as I can, be objecting to their shit and challenging them to expose their deceptions, spins & false accusations for what they really are.
There is no 150-year old collecting payments (but it would be all right if there were). The oldest living person in the US today is an 114-year-old woman. Last week when I checked it was an 116-year old man, but he has translated. Probably, because his
payments were caught off. Conservatives are killing senior citizens over 115.* Just wait until THEY die. There will be a lot of senior citizens waiting for them with some serious reckoning during the conservatives lives' reviews. I imagine there will be a lot of other people there, too.
Why, that's a terrible thing. What conservative agist came up with that stupid, cruel law? You, against all odds live to be 115, and you are cut off from payments! It is very simple! Just get those greedy billionaires to pay at least
However, it does depend on what day of the month your loved one died. For example, my mother just died Dec. 4. On December 3, she received her Social Security, which was technically for November. All payments have stopped.the Same with my father. He died on Jan. 9. Nothing returned, but pay stopped.
When my sister died in Pennsylvania, the local government's Probate Court automatically notified the IRS, Soc Sec, and the whole state banking system, after receiving notification of death from the hospice. Different states may have a slightly different system, but it's all formalized.
Well I know that and you know that but when you are still learning to read and write you are bound to make mistakes.
But the..BIGGLY..IST..mistakes are being unable to comprehend your mistakes!
Social Security Administration (SSA) does not reuse Social Security numbers. The numbers might be in a database forever. Just because it’s there, doesn’t mean they pay benefits.
the minute the health department of the state where they died is informed, SS is also informed-it can be the hospital or the funeral home. Whoever notifies them first
And they take the money directly out of the deceased’s account if the money went in after death and before they were notified. The funeral home tells you not to do anything with it or you will owe it.
The SS Admin is ON IT. If you die on the 28th of the month, your estate does NOT get paid for THAT month. If you DO get paid via auto deposit, that money will be debited for that amount within days.
I managed a friends money after she got cancer & went into care. She died on the 19th of the month. She was auto paid her SS a few days later. Within a couple wks SS took that money back.
I work in banking 20 yrs.. it literally never happens that the account receives ss payment because as soon as we are notified of death, a warning is placed on the acct. If it does get a deposit they take it back right away.
