When I was a kid in the 50's they found that paint thinner somehow created a banana flavor when mixed with ice cream.
Damn good but how the hell did anyone think of that concoction?
Esters are responsible for the aroma of many fruits, including apples, durians, pears, bananas, pineapples, and strawberries.[13] Several billion kilograms of polyesters are produced industrially annually,
Like food sold in USstores isn’t already toxic cess pool!Half food in USgrocery stores can’t legallyBlabeled/sold as ‘food’ &/or is illegal due2presence of dangerous chemicals.USisALSO only place that allows corp2sell ‘food’ w/o disclosing ALL ingredients, including known carcin, b/c’trade secrets’
Also, Upton Sinclair wrote THE JUNGLE, which was published around 1903, that reflected how filthy and disgusting American meat packing plants are. I think it’s still true today.
The only consistent theme I can see is that by wiping out organisations like the FDA and OSHA, the Republican Administration is trying to cull the US population.
I'm Australian, I didn't know about the Tylenol autism lawsuits - though, sadly, I'm not surprised to hear about them now. It's all just distractions from whatever other evil things they are up to.
"Unfortunately, scientific research has identified a link between Tylenol use and children born with certain developmental disorders, particularly autism and ADHD. We feel confident that in-utero acetaminophen exposure has a negative impact on fetal development." https://lawsuitlegalnews.com/tylenol-autism-lawsuit/
Johnson and Johnson haven't guaranteed they would settle, last I checked. And, most people were told Tylenol was the safest form of pain reliever, my mom took it and nearly all of her kids have ADHD or autism...🤷🏼♀️
It's not that dark. It's just a bunch of the stupidest, pettiest people society could scrape off the bottom of the barrel put in charge of shit my other complete morons that spend their days figuratively polishing their brains to a mirror finish.
funnily enough may be more of the right getting culled since a good number of them seem to be against anything that makes any sort of sense on food/health/science standards. so they will be diminishing their own because the rest of us will have sense enough not to eat things that arent safe
Does Trump not realise other countries are watching what he is dismantling he allows low standards in his own hand picked government,do you think he is going to worry about the standards he sets for his own population cutting red tape otherwise known as safety and confidence in what you are buying!
White milk ?? Well, I lived on a farm .. and every once of milk that came out of our dairy cows was WHITE. So I don't know what kind of animal's milk they are referring to. Or you're just full of shit
And being vegetarian or vegan will not save you as the FDA is decimated. Some of the largest foodborne outbreaks in the last year were linked to cucumbers, walnuts, organic carrots, organic basil, onions, and cantaloupe.
Exactly. I am starting to grow my own food and going straight to the Farmers that have small markets in my small town. I mean there's always something but we must be very careful. You are so right just be safe as you can be.
Finding a local small grower that you can trust is still a good plan. Storing food during its season and reducing ingredients from mass industrial chemical production - also still good plans.
The problem is that you can kill pathogens when you cook food, but it’s difficult if not impossible to WASH pathogens off produce, especially lettuce. The crinkled surface gives bacteria lots of places to hide. I eat spinach, cooked, and other cooked dark greens instead of fresh ones.
In traditional Asian cooking, greens, including lettuce, were never eaten raw, always cooked, because they fertilized their gardens with “night soil”. They knew the dangers.
4/21-23 Work Stop. Call in, go in late, slow down production, take the day off. Boycott tRump, vAnts, fElon, bozo’s, Suck, etc. We need to shut down the country. Buy local, promote liberty gardens, a local barter system, volunteer at homeless shelters, donate to charities. #BuildtheResistance
Why do we pay taxes if the state doesn't protect us?
Just to make the already very rich richer?
Times when the rich have overindulged always end in revolutions, but they are so greedy that they don't want to take a moment to read history and repeat it.
In NYC the Irish (for one) sang folk songs which traveled to others warning of the dangers of milk, and it was safer to give your children beer!! Tenement museum in NYC does a while thing on it!
As a former farmer, it cracks me up how people will so casually say "get some chickens" "start a farm", "put in a big vegetable garden".
It's time-consuming work with the possibility of crop failure or a fox massacring your chickens wiping you out at any time.
Well my hope is is that Trader Joe's has their own specific suppliers especially when it comes to organic grass-fed milk and that those suppliers do their own inspections and check their milk and test all of their product
I think the word “hope” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, but I’ll share the weight burden because milk is such a huge food staple for most people. This makes me so sad for us.
They don’t. That’s not how it works, unfortunately. All agricultural inspections have been done by the government for years - no company is paying for that.
Businesses trust businesses to do the right thing (make more money for their shareholders to the exclusion of all other concerns), and that's all that matters to this administration.
Oh no. How terrible. What do the rich gain by killing as many of us as possible. By not receiving their income, taxes anymore ? Or are they just sadistically sick and twisted?
"Research presented today at the Society for General Microbiology's Annual Meeting in Liverpool shows that the disease-causing E. coli O157:H7 interacts directly with plant cells, allowing it to anchor to the surface of a plant, where it can multiply."
Fabulous. Nothing I said has changed. I've been vegan 10 years. Never an issue because I know how to care for my food. Plant based risks are DRASTICALLY reduced over SAD, especially when grown without manure.
Your point is taken but we MUST still care about the people who aren't going to change. It's common decency, and tons of folks, esp kids, can't call the shots on their food, and frankly? *Veggies* have been the worst affected recently. I got got. You should care about ALL food safety regs.
Spread the link to your vegan buds. It isn't going to be perfect since a lot of stuff won't even get caught, but it's SOMETHING between you and food-borne illness that could flat-out kill you just for eating a nice crunchy leaf.
My friend is 85. She just started a treatment for severe osteoporosis. She drinks a lot of milk to get some of her daily requirement of Calcium. She is not in the best of health. One bad batch of milk will probably kill her. But, I suppose, that is the point of all of this.
Ok just look up how much of those you need to eat to get the amount an 85 year old with osteoporosis needs even assuming they can absorb it with that much fibre.
I just did. Milk has a little bit more calcium per cup than a cup of one of these vegetables. So yeah she'd have to eat a little bit more of them than drinking milk but it's better than not getting any calcium due to avoiding milk altogether if milk were not an option due to sediment or poisons
Check your sources - the internet was a pseudoscientific claptrap pit even before AI. Even at 150mg/100g no one is eating 700g of Kale a day let alone a frail 85 year old. They’ll probably be on Adcal D3 anyhow.
You've probably been misled by the 'calcium per calorie' statistic. Remember that vegetables are low calorie. To get enough of either calcium or calories takes a lot more veggies than milk!
Don’t worry, Bobby Brainworm is in charge of HHS. Once he’s finished abusing people on the autism spectrum, he’ll reinstate the formaldehyde protocols for milk.
And milk alterations are but a minor thing compared to many others revealed in this classic that was assigned reading for me in 8th grade.
Government oversight over food safety.
What a wild concept…..
Dictator Trump doesn’t care about the millions of children that will be harmed by this stupidity. He and his MAGA Minions only care about making millions (more) at The People’s expense!
Healthy food, water and air are inefficient. As I used to teach my students, if a beneficial regulation doesn't cost jobs, don't bother. Good regs cause mkt adjustments to make people better off and this usually comes at a cost. You want benefits>costs.
They will probably insist on independent inspections and maybe even their own standards be followed and certified to. You know the stuff the US FDA does to companies exporting to the US.
Yeah, I don't know why other countries don't want Anerican chlorinated irradiated meat, un-inspected dairy, and produce picked by exploited workers without paid sick days...
I mean, I don't want it either, but I'm stuck here in America
It's already mostly banned in the UK due to our higher food standards. Even recognised brands have very different recipes. Global trade for America is laughably unlikely.
In Europe we already have healthier versions of your food. 🤣 Different recipes for sodas, sweets or chips. And some food like your bread is completely illegal.
What will happen is that they'll send their own inspectors, who will be considerably less responsive to the concerns--including genuinely real and justified ones--of American exporters.
The US dairy industry is one food scandal away from not just permanently losing export markets but a chunk of their domestic one too. E.g. China still imports a meaningful % of infant milk formula after the 2009 melamine scandal.
And of course we hear nothing from the dairy industry reassuring the public that they will continue to abide 'voluntarily' with the quality tests to which we have grown accustomed. Nope, you can bet the dairy C-Suites are celebrating right now.
You shouldn't. In fact, we Americans shouldn't, either. We've just accepted that a large percentage of raw chicken we buy is infected with salmonella. Instead of fixing the problem, we all handle it like microbiologists or take our chances.
Even if you force through trade deals to try to bypass stricter standards anywhere else, NOBODY is ever going to buy the crappy foodstuffs. Importers will be left with huge stockpiles of rotting rotten chemical ridden food and no demand. No demand no imports - hmmmm...
Canada has already stopped buying American food products. Hormones in milk and poor meat handling makes it inedible. No proper government oversight is the final nail in the coffin. I wonder how many farms will be rewilded when the US loses all foreign markets?
Unfortunately, they won't be rewilded; they'll be sold off to the highest bidders to either "Drill Baby Drill" or, depending on their location, turned into internment camps for immigrants and U.S. citizens who don't agree with tRump.
Good luck getting your crops picked, packed, and replanted with competition for farm workers pushing labor costs up. East TX & LA farmers are paying up to double what they paid last spring for berry pickers, and blueberries are rotting on the vine because there are no pickers.
My comment was as a non-American and it was reflective of the additives and the post but as you’re talking about crops that I don’t buy American produce so there’s that
I understand. I live in TX, but don’t drink the water because of poor safety standards. I hate doing it, but we use only New Zealand water for ice, tea/coffee, and drinking. I feel guilty about plastic waste (no recycling here), but the cancer cluster here make it unsafe to do otherwise.
It’s what I get for marrying an East Texas man who wanted to retire on a family farm that’s been in his family since TX was owned by Mexico. I spend as much time as possible in saner places - just 28 days until I arrive in NZ for four months. 😊
Canadian 100% agree if they don’t want to meet our standards, then they don’t have access to our market. We are entitled to govern our sovereign nation and they do not get to dictate to us
He just tries to bully everyone
Have been carefully reading all milk/dairy labels for a few years now, ever since Fairlife crossed the border to be repackaged here. No Frankenmilk for me, ThankYouVeryMuch!
Nope! Nope! Nope!
We need a federalist system where states can opt in or out—like the EU. Blue states have modern solutions; red states drag us down. Tying ourselves to them is self-destruction. A civil split isn’t worse than a dictatorship backed by a delusional minority.
We have too many people and so we had to resort to factory farming and everything else which then pollutes the supply. There are far fewer people in Canada so you guys can keep your food and food supply. Pure. I think I want to move to Canada!
Even before all of these changes, we had higher standards. For example, growth hormones are forbidden, any cow treated with antibiotics has its milk discarded, and it’s illegal to sell raw milk.
There is no objective reason our standards are so low lol. It’s not “overpopulation”! It’s greed. It’s cheaper to buy a congress than it is to keep the industry clean so profits stay high and our standards stay low.
And the funny thing is...we have a quota set up for US dairy products and if they exceed their quota, they are then charged 250% tariffs. BUT GET THIS, the US has NEVER gotten close to their quota...EVER. So their dairy has never been charged tariffs because of the trade deal SIGNED by the OranguTAN
The only issue I personally have with Canadian milk is just the bag. It just seems weird to me. But yeah, we're about to see more sickness from more preventable desieses in the near future. We U.S. Americans are so fucked.
The bag is great. No problem. 😂 I don’t love the plastic but tbh unless we all get back to milk in reusable glass bottles those coated cartons aren’t great either.
They’re great until you drop one on the floor, trust me. 😭 They also make good thick freezer bags. But we don’t drink enough milk now that the kids are gone, so back to cartons.
After CUSMA was signed, "modified milk ingredient" appeared in many baked products that previously did not contain dairy. Due to allergies those changed products were all struck from my shopping list.
I was going to say. Our agricultural practices in the U.S. that we buy imports as part of our clean eating. Only famine aid was using our crap food products. Those republican farmers really need bail outs now.
Yes! Some countries already don't buy certain products from us, as we have so many unnecessary additives etc, like antibiotics or steroids in our meat and carcinogenic additives on other products. We'll be a global pariah, now.
Chlorinated chicken, too. There was a big debate with the UK bc they don't want our chlorinated chicken. They don't allow it there, but DJT was trying to get them to import it in exchange for lower tariffs.
Goes to show the hypocrisy of this government- RFK goes after drugs that sustain good health and trump goes after good quality health research but say nothing about harmful and lethal additives added to the food chain for profit.
They're so freaking stupid they don't appear to recognize they are also living in the same environment that's being harmed. That's their Achilles heel.
The people making these cuts are unaffected by them because they have the wealth and power to live well. The people who voted for it on the other hand are indeed incredibly stupid.
e.g.: They overwhelmingly want to get rid of that damn "Obamacare" while also benefiting the most from it. They also complain about rural problems while voting those into power that further harm rural communities. Trump is so anti-farmer it's disgusting yet he won the farmer vote.
Adam Smith wrote: ‘It is always the business of the merchant to defraud the public’. The author of the Wealth of Nations was not opposed to regulation. Deregulation was not what he meant by free trade. He was after all, a Moral Philosopher.
Support the FDA by getting on the phone or e-mail and telling the only people in the country can provide funding for it which are the 535 in DC. It only takes a minute and it doesn't cost any money. We don't need money in politics. We justs need people to participate. https://www.nationalfinancialplan.com
So now the Secretary of Agriculture can recommend that if we have a problem with this, we can keep a cow next to our chickens in our back yard or apartment balcony.
Child labor, no consumer protections, no environmental protection, sexism, racism - America is on a grand nostalgia tour for 1900. 1900 House - no longer just a tv show!
🔥🇺🇸👊🏻
They use silica now (Silicon dioxide or Powdered sand) The FDA ruled that it doesn't need to be labelled so long as it is below 2% (And it is very hard to tell if there is more than 2% unless the FDA chemists check on a regular basis (They don't)
Maybe at least we can have Kinder Eggs now? (They are disallowed in the US due to rules against putting non-food into food)…trying to find silver linings where I can. 😩
And here I thought RFK Jr was linking autism and cancer to all the unsafe things that go into our foods. Guess food coloring is a more important target because one can see the poison going into our systems.
No - My grandfather was - but only by invasion and despotism. He died an American of Ukranian/Romanian descent. On my Dad's side - We've been in the USA, since 1617. Nobody had to apply to anybody for anything back then. They were all illegal. What makes you ask?
You give opinion (some kind of colours) of his death... But what was the action that killed him? what action? (Natural cause?)
What do you mean by the word Apply?
In 1600, it was a different world yeah... also 1990 was a different world too.
I suspect something is being lost in translation, Ivan. I'm using a metaphor. "Our regulations" = the rules that govern our products and protect us from harm. "are paid for" = exist because of. "in BLOOD"= somebody has already been hurt by not having the FDA screen the product. Hope that helps.
Also- I'm alluding that the people cancelling the safety inspections are doing so because thy are NAZIs, who are turning America in to a living concentration camp.
Previous to the FDA, folks would put chalk and plaster of Paris in milk to make it appear white. They could also add formaldehyde to cover the smell and taste of spoiled milk.
---
So now it is back to 'the good old days' of unsafe food where ever you go.
@kaine.senate.gov @sanders.senate.gov @baldwin.senate.gov @chrismurphyct.bsky.social hello?????? Wake up!!!!!! The is man is a danger to us all! Get off your ass and call him before the committee!! He needs to be fired!!!!!!!! Now!!!!!
In very many ways, the push-back against safety checks on the food supply comes from people complacent about the supply's integrity because of the very success of these testing programs.
Yeah, same story as vaccines, they were "too successful" so people don't actually know what things were like without them so they figure it's no big deal...
A SHITLOAD of bureaucracy existed to perpetuate the state of affairs whereby they don't "find out" most of that has now been gutted.
The same reason most of EU won’t allow American wheat into their countries. It’s coated with Glyphosate, a deadly substance used in Round Up (banned in most of EU) that’s been known for decades to cause cancer.
Spoiled milk, measles outbreak, plane crashes, security breaches, funding for schools disappearing, economy tanking, job losses, we are not just abandoning, but attacking allies, and throwing people in concentration camps. How can anyone think this is making us great?
I hope organic & independent dairies will make public commitments to standards. Contact a local meat share/dairy—supports local farmers, less transit, more price stable. What will the impact on “factory” dairies in swing states be?
Näz¡ goal to kill off every "imperfect human" not contributing to the gross domestic product bc Näz¡s have turned evangelicals into a Christofascist death cult to facilitate wholesale slavery. Death cults are obsessed w/slaughter & hastening apocalypse, like Taliban. Mass death validates delusion.
Start checking around your area for farms that care about the milk they are selling. If you’re in Colorado, check out Longmont Dairy- they deliver to your door too. I haven’t gotten store milk in almost a year. Also check for farms that produce eggs, etc- you’re going to need it
Us older citizens are seeing that happen and at this rate our
families won't be recipients of as much of an inheritance the way the stock market is reacting.
A population that is well enough to work, uneducated enough to vote for them and ill enough to rely on their medical insurance sounds like a republican's wet dream.
Historically they cannot be trusted to be the right thing. Corporations would (and still do) beg politicians to force them, because their fiduciary duty to shareholders prevents them from doing the right thing. Quite literally, your 401K kills not only you but current workers in this situation.
So my real question becomes: which corporations are they serving? Which rich people? Name them so we can find out who the parasites really are. Those specific corporations willing to do harm already exist - obviously, since we are here now. So... we need the lid blown off it and boycott to hell.
That is both idiotic and dangerous. Milk is used in so many different products. It will make it harder to find which of a group of contents is affect the eventual product.
Historically, milk was a major vector for TB which is highly contagious once a person has an active case. It kills over 1,250,000 annually to this day.
Let’s not forget that the FDA has audit and regulatory teams to monitor Chinese and Indian pharmaceutical products bound for the US. You can bet these DOGE cuts will affect this group as well.
I think SOME of the administration's backers want more workers. Some others just want more white people.
The techbros want to eliminate a lot of people, they see most of us as surplus to requirements.
I am simply apalled (more and more everyday) by the executive branch.
We are very grateful for our government regulatory bodies in Canada 🇨🇦.
I envision our border to close on all u s companies that don’t adhere to safety standards.
A perfect time to talk about vegan lifestyles. But,hey, farmers are hard working, mortgaged, living on the edge of solvent in so many regions. What a mess
This will hit kids hard as they are destroying Medicaid: 50% of America's children are on medicaid. Kids are also developing their adaptive immune systems, are in schools where everything spreads much easier. Older folks, immune compromised, pregnant at greater risk too for food poisoning too.
the religious right does, in fact, crave the end of days, they're trying to speedrun the Second Coming basically, and the technofascists are tryna speedrun their fake gods, and the degenerate traffickers and pedophiles are just like "sure glad they're focusing on those trannies!"
They are all drinking from the Crazy Koolaid fountain. My crazy is trying to understand what makes them able sacrifice their children, to crave unnatural, unrealistic, magical beliefs & realities. Is real life just to much for them? Just being a small part of a bigger more beautiful life not enough?
We'll have to grow our own food & raise chickens. No restaurants either. Grocery stores will shut down as well as restaurants. Tourism is shot & this will stab it to make sure it's dead. Who in their right mind would travel here when dysentery is likely a given. So much winning. I can't bear it.
Well Jess, republicans already did away with the people that inspect your beef for consumption! The Epa is being gutted as well, so get ready for a lot more sickness and waste all to justify a 5 trillion dollar tax break for the wealthiest people in America! Only in this America! Vote democrat! 😎
You missed the point, dude.
When the public loses confidence in food safety it switches to an alternative. The dairy industry benefits from vigorous inspection programs.
(Search Boar's Head liverwurst).
Ahh. Probably should be though, all this processed stuff has a decent margin of error for contamination and other issues.
/former employee at a Coca-Cola bottle making plant and a filter making plant that made filters for vaccines and beverages.
Yaaay errant hair, plastic, metal, glass said no one
Bird flu has devastated the poultry industry, forcing the killing of entire flocks of egg-laying hens. Will we have the same tragedy happen to our dairy cattle?
Bird flu has been detected in raw milk samples, particularly in states experiencing outbreaks in dairy cattle. Raw milk from infected cows can contain high levels of the H5N1 virus, which can be a risk to consumers. This is no time to stop testing milk.
Scientists warn what bird flu mutations could mean for people-60 Minutes
More than 100 federal scientists who track bird flu, including food safety experts, have been laid off. This comes as the deadly pathogen rips through dairy herds and poultry flocks.
It’s like the sick egomaniacal plutocrats want to strip our country bare of anything that will help the average American’s life so they can enjoy the show as it all implodes.
Yeah as dumb as this decision is, the hysterics from people here who didn’t read the article are causing people to miss the real issues the right can’t just laugh off. This is dangerous right now. The irony of raw milk being a possible vector for a human-spreading bird flu…. My god
every state except NJ allows for the sale of raw milk but none allow its sale in grocery stores only direct from dairies or farmer’s mkts-watch the push to get it into retail locations, Mark McAfee who has sold raw milk contaminated with bird flu & has had numerous recalls now has a job with the FDA
guaranteed red states which currently have restrictions will reduce or eliminate them to ‘help the local farmers’ and if they aren’t testing pasteurized milk why would they bother to test raw milk, jr promotes raw milk why wouldn’t he mandate it must be widely available
Raw milk can be relatively safe with a clean tested herd, and immaculate handling and storage techniques. Not everyone is good at this though. It's easier for me as a small farm to get a raw milk license than a pasteurized one. I'd need an extra license for the processing being done. It's stupid.
Get to know your local dairy farmer? I suppose you could pasteurize it at home, but people are gonna miss homogenized milk. Plant a garden. Don't let corps own the food supply.
No strong track record of industries self-regulating. Additionally, if consumers don't know of the risks and those risks have a longer time horizon (like cancer), they can't react
And people getting sick will not even make the news in this climate.
LOTS of people dying might …but doubtful.
School shooters don’t even make national headlines anymore.
This has literally never happened. Even when it is very clear that products kill customers big business will fight and nail to not only produce the product, but produce it with all few safeguards as they can get.
We the people...need to save ourselves and our country!! Because Trump, Musk, Vance, Project 2025 and the GOP apparently want to kill or imprison us all!
Only if it can enforce its regulations on multinational corporations and not be swamped by a disinformation machine funded to thousands of times its own level
They could just publish a list of recalls, and food warnings so people could choose to check with it, or with Trump administration's list. No harm in that. Right?
Hmm... Milk's very price sensitive, and any at-home plans may miss the scale of society. I wonder if a trust database won't suffer the same problems of obscurity-by-fiat, particularly because the whole point of gutting regs is to juice profits before the oil runs out (crude, but something like that)
On the other hand, I have no relevant experience - are there lists of fired federal employees being built? Even in the most cynical way, they'd be good for finding people who probably have decent skills, since we know the firings weren't from merit!
The companies producing plant milk don’t care about you either and will doctor their own products just the same in the absence of regulation and inspections.
Once additives like that start killing people all these raw milk influencers are gonna start hocking their wares and pushing raw milk, making money and killing more people.
Kennedy has criticized regulatory agencies for their stance on pasteurization, tweeting ahead of the election that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s regulations on raw milk were part of the agency’s “war on public health.”
He also recently asked raw milk entrepreneur Mark McAfee — who’s had raw milk products recalled — to apply to be an adviser to the FDA on raw milk policy and standards development.

Damn good but how the hell did anyone think of that concoction?
At least then he would have a Junior he could be proud of.
They keep cows pregnant forever, take their babies away when they're born, pump those tits for all the milk it can get.
